It looks like Nathan Lyon could be returning to NSW. Big loss for SA but probably good for CA. Better playing on the SCG every second match than the new drop ins at AO.

This is nothing but a positive for SA. Have a look at his record for us In the shield, it's terrible.

Looks like that is why We have gone after Zampa.

McDonald looks to be a short term replacement for Christian (who can piss off where ever he likes IMO) Need to find some blokes who can bat and occupy the crease.

Agree, we replace a bloke whose shield record isnt great and we probably arent going to see much of him anyway with a young lad looking to make his name in the game with alot of raw talent.

In saying that Lyon does have international experience and seems to be a very popular player amongst any side he plays in.

The move is probably a win/win for everyone involved.

McDonald would be a good pick up for the Redbacks, would add some much needed batting ability. Not sure where he fits into the bowling line up of Putland, Sayers, Richardson, Mennie, Worrall, Haberfield and himself.

Assuming Lyon goes to NSW

The side could look like this: (3 pace, 1 medium pace 2 spin)

Hughes / Carey / Brown / Cooper ???
Klinger
Head
Ferguson
McDonald
Ludeman
Botha
Richardson
Sayers
Putland
Zampa

Or (i personally like this side)

Carey
Hughes / Brown / Cooper ???
Klinger
Head
Ferguson
McDonald
Ludeman
Botha
Richardson
Sayers
Zampa

Agree with Squids that if fit Putland has to play, batting still looks brittle FS

It does but its capable, and has to do the job if we want to win.

Naturally form dictates (well you hope it does) selection, but I feel our best chance of winning matches is the extra batter and Pultand misses out.

we showed we can take wickets, we just would get skittled for jack

Sayers and McDonald are work horses, Richardson (along with Sayers) is an impact bowler. That with the 2 spinners I think is enough bowling

O'Keefe isn't captain, Rohrer is
And we would've had to play 3 spinners next season

I wouldn't mind seeing Klinger slip down the order a bit, I think some of these kids (Head, Carey) need to continue towards the top

Hughes - If with the Aussies - Raphael
Carey - Determined Sportsman will make it at this level
Head - Has the talent and puts balls away like a couple of old left handers no longer located in SA
Ferguson - No Aussie contract but think we will miss him to some higher honours next season from reports
Klinger - Strengthens the middle order - Jake Brown steps into this spot otherwise
McDonald - Cant stand the bloke, but is a very handy first class cricketer, who has a lot better record then Christian.
Ludeman - would love to see Tim Davey with the gloves but Ludeman did a very very good job last year
Botha - Needs to bat 8 and concentrate on being the teams number 1 spinner, will contribute handy runs
Richardson - Has to play 4 day cricket I believe, can hold the stick too, Joe Mennie very unlucky to miss out
Sayers - Finally rewarded after years of grade cricket and showed what he can do.
Putland - Adds variety to the attack, swings the ball brilliantly when fit and in form

few blokes unlucky to miss out, but competition for spots is what this state needs

I'd have Brown ahead of Carey. Raphael to go back to the second XI and Head needs to step up and show what he can do at this level. Played every game last year, made three 50s which isn't too bad, but struggled to make a run apart from that and never looked like he was too comfortable out there.

Hughes/? when he is playing for Australia
Klinger
Ferguson
Brown
Head/McDonald
Ludeman
Botha
Mennie/Richardson
Sayers
Putland
Zampa

Looking back at last seasons stats, Mennie would be a walk up start against Richardson
