stampy wrote:i reckon its about time the lb law was overhauled, imho i say if the ball hits a batsman on the pads and is going on to hit the stumps then he is out regardless of where it pitched, this referral bizzo is starting to shit me, lets cut the crap about pitching in line and if its hitting eff off your out!

I don't agree.
The batsman has to have some chance and the rule as it stands is pretty fair.

Still your suggestion is not as crazy as one Darrell Hair put forward in his book Decision Maker some years back.
He thought the LBW rule should be changed so that if a batsman got an inside edge onto the pad so slight as to hardly affect the line of the ball they could still be given out leg before.

the BATSMAN is there to hit the ball and also to protect his wicket, If he doesn't hit the ball with his bat, he could be either bowled or out LBW, leg BEFORE wicket, stopping the ball from hitting the wicket, he is supposed to use the bat. Make the rule simple, if it hits the pad & is going to hit the stumps, IT'S OUT! no more grey areas.

How is an umpire expected to make the right call when a leggie is going around the wicket?

if the bowler or fielder appeals & if the ump thinks it's gonna hit, give it out, they can review every ball now, can't they?

So you want to slow the game up even more? Or turn the game into backyard cricket?

There is nothing wrong with the lbw law.

X2.

There is a problem with DRS, but the LBW law has been good for many years, and continues to be fine.

but now that we have this DRS, how many LBW's were given out in the past which weren't out & vice versa? you have a bat, use it, if it misses the bad, you could be in trouble.

So you want to change the way cricket has been played for over 100 years? Totally change the balance of the game from an even contest between bat and ball?

change for the better, nothing wrong with that. If we didn't change things, we would still be able to bowl underarm.

I'm happy with test match cricket the way it is. Certainly don't want to see drs review after review. Don't want to see bowlers firing in ball after ball pitched up on the stumps, or spinners bowling around the wicket all the time. Lucky for you 20/20 cricket is available to watch, if you can call it cricket.

Maybe CA should employ Adrian Anderson as Cricket Operations Manager ... he'll faark, err sorry, fix everything up.
