Always liked Richie though and Stacky was a good commentator. I also like Tony Crozier the West Indian bloke and Henry Blofield I think it was went all right as well.

Out of the newer commentators I hate Ian Healy with a passion and Nicholas is dreadful. Would much prefer to hear Warne as his grasp of the game is second to none but he's a bit too busy in the workshop these days. Taylor and Slats not bad but I reckon they need to do better than the 'Slats 90's' bit they've got going now.

Don't mind the FOX boys with Julian,Blewett, Junior and AB. Nine should throw some money at one or two of them.

I rate Healy i reckon he is the best outside of Chappell, Benaud, and Taylor in that order.

Like how he talks about the psychology of the game.

However I was a 'keeper so I'm biased.

Don't mind Warne and Slater.

The Bill and Tony act got stale last century.

Any one who kills Mark Nicholas should get off as "justifiable homicide"
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I remember that Mark Nicholas in one down part in the game a few years back talking about a six a guy hit landing so far back in the audience. It's a crowd mate, audience is for theatre. He and Healy should be the first two up against the wall. Tubby deserves at least a stern talking to.

Always liked Bill Lawry geuine personality, witty and the only one there I don't mind waffle on when nothing is happening out in the middle. Loved how excited he used to get talking about the MCG or anything remotely Victorian.

The best commentary I've ever heard was from William Morris when this shit pommie spinner Peter Such bowled a delivery in an Ashes Test out here and before the ball had even landed on the pitch Lawry yells "Oh that's rubbish!" and one of our guys just smashed it into the boundary for four.

Well I hope that Tony Greig is well enough by the time Lawry's last call in a test comes around and they put them together for the last session for old times sake. If not, then 9 should seriously look at getting Billy Birmingham into the box to fill in for Greigy - he could also do Lawry's part as well!

Skull is best suited to radio. Had me in stitches on a couple of occasions yesterday and his humour wouldn't work on TV IMO.

Agree, great on radio but wouldnt have the same effect on TV..

Reckon Ponting will join the team next year.

Ponting destined for coaching IMO
Will take over at Tassie next season and do his apprenticeship before being the coach of Australia one day.

Lawry is ok but Warne is the only one worth listening to.
Can't stand the rest, especially Chappel and Richie is horrible, the others just ignore his ramblings.
Slater's fake supposedly uncontrolable laugh drives me nuts.

Bill was occasionally infuriating, but most of the time enjoyable.
Chappelli and Taylor occasionally over-explain things or use too many wrods, but when talking about crciket are by far the best. Warne pretty good too.
Don't mind Nicholas or Slater
Healy turns me off.
Can't see Ponting in the commentary box.

He used to commentate on Ch 9 during the domestic one dayers and was terrible. Him and Mick Malone were shocking to listen to.

He's much more himself on the ABC and there he should stay.

Yes some body else agrees with me. He always thinks he knows best. Yesterday when they had two back for the hook shot to cowan he kept going on about how it is a terrible position, and there should be a third slip. Where did Cowan get caught!!!! Then he was praising the bowling and the tactics what a F&(k wit

I will miss Bill, as I have been listening & watching channel 9 since a youngster since 1975 when I really got into the great game.
Reading all the comments on this thread, I cannot understand the dislike for Ian Healy, as I am a massive fan. He gives great insight. I think keepers in general have a lot more time to take in the whole perspective of the game, rather than say, Brett Lee.
I have never disliked a commentator, because everyone has their own opinions on certain facets of the way things are going, ala, captaincy, field placings, batting orders, bowling changes etc.
I like the way Ian Chappell has always been so forthright in his opinions (and am looking forward to reading his book, on Christmas day), Bill & Tony's arguments, Richie's astute knowledge, Tubby & Slat's laughing off mike while they pay each other out & I really like Warnies insight, as I do Glenn Mcgath.
Nicholas is really the only guy who irks me somewhat, as he has never played the game at the highest level, but in a nutshell, all these blokes beat the BBC commentators hands down.

In the end, we relly must thank the Big man Kerry Packer for over 30years of great cricket viewing.
Some posters on here have been spoilt, and maybe it is time to appreciate what we have had. After all it is Christmas.

It won't be the same without Bill, Tony, Richie, Chappelli etc. Always admired Bill Lawry for his ability to sum up what was going to happen in a split second before it played out on TV. His famous "Got him, yes he's gone!" in a broken voice, his famous call of that 1999 Semi Final tie and of course every Boxing Day morning he's welcoming us to the MCG. Will be missed. He's played a big part of every summer I've been alive and glued to the cricket on TV!

His line during an Ashes Test in England where big Merv bowled someone with last ball of the days play is still used at the end of of the WWOS Cricket Intro - "bowled him, last ball of the day, can you believe it!"

I think that is right - my memory is hazy!
