Who will open the batting for Aus, personally i would like to see Warner and Hughes, i dont mind Cowan but find he gets bogged down far to often which puts added pressure on Warner, at least if Hughes bats time he generally scores quickly (even if it is from edges through the slips for four)

Will the Aussies go with the 4 paceman or include the spinner, is Lyon the automatic selection.

At this real early stage this is my 11

1. D.Warner
2. P.Hughes
3. S.Watson
4. R.Ponting
5. M.Clarke
6.?????????
7. M.Wade
8. J.Pattinson
9. P.Cummins
10. M.Starc
11. N.Lyon

Why would you leave out Siddle who has a hat trick to his name at the Gabba and Hilf who hits the seam more than most? Add to that you've selected Hughes who is a walking wicket once the ball gets between his hips and his neck.

I actually completely forgot about siddle/hilfenhaus

Hughes does have a test hundred against the saffers. Also think that alot of times cowans gets extremely bogged down which puts added pressure on Warner I think Hughes and Warner has the potential to be a better combination

Unfortunately that was before the world worked out Phil's obvious weakness to any ball pitched on or outside off :(

They would only make it through 7 overs in 1 of 8 innings... IMO

Agree with this and am 95% certain that this is how they'll line up for Brisbane (Starc/Lyon - conditions pending).

This. Hughes is all duck no dinner. I'll settle for Cowan making the Saffers earn his wicket, it will be better for our middle order. If Hughes could over come his weakness he's a better attacking option than Cowan every time but right now he's too technically unsound.

Steve Waugh has come out and said we should play Haddin as a batsman if Wade is keeper, really don't agree with this.

X2

If for some reason a spot in the batting line up becomes available I would like to see a younger player given a go at the number six spot

At the moment we have a range of young quicks banging on the door. Cummims, Patonson and Starc just to name a few. But where are the batsmen. Khawaja has only been in modest form really. Hughes well no. Maddinson maybe has been ok but really our batting is a concern now and into the future.

Cowan to start but is on very shaky ground. Needs a decent score or two against South Africa or he should be gone

With the Saffies to arrive already Smith has his mouth in gear with a rather disingenous piece about 'targetting' Ricky Ponting. The last time these blokes came out here Smith was surprisingly quiet and the Proteas let their cricket do the talking - end result, they beat us. The tour before that Smith was mouthy and they got rolled.

Keep on talking Smithy!

Aus vs SAF Series

Either ferguson is in the selectors mind for a test spot or he is a fair bit away, they picked the Australia A squad today to play South Africa. And they haven't picked players vying for the test 11. And ferguson is not in that squad

He cant be close, one innings against an ordinary bowling attack on a batting paradise does not make a test batsmen

Aus vs SAF Series

Postby test » Sat Oct 27, 2012 10:03 am

Who's this Doolan from Tasmania? Made a hundred against the redbacks here a few weeks ago and hit 90 odd against the Vic's this week, anyone know about his history? We badly need some shield batsmen performing and putting pressure on the incumbents.
Talk of Ferg being in calculations shows how light on we are for batsmen at the moment.
