Two larger-than-life Hampshire characters will come together at the county's ground later this season, to cap off the £48million redevelopment of West End. Former captains Colin Ingleby-Mackenzie and Shane Warne are to be honoured with stands named after them before England's ODI against West Indies on June 16, the club has announced.

Michael Di Venuto, the Durham batsman, has retired from county cricket with immediate effect after six years with the club.

Di Venuto, 37, scored 6488 first-class runs for Durham since joining in 2007 including a tally of 1654 in 2009 when the county won the second of their back-to-back Championship titles. However, this season he had averaged 29.10 from five matches and decided he could no longer reach the levels required for the first-class game.

"My body won't allow me to prepare and play the way I want," he said.

Aussies in Action

- Australia's Usman Khawaja scored his maiden one-day century for Derbyshire as they recorded a Clydesdale Bank 40 double over the Unicorns with a 35-run victory at Chesterfield. Khawaja made 104 from 109 balls and shared a century opening stand with Chesney Hughes who made 66 out of Derbyshire's 235 for 7.
- Simon Katich guided Hampshire to a comfortable four-wicket CB40 win over Durham with a perfectly judged half-century. Australian veteran Katich struck three sixes and a four in his 59 not out as Hampshire got home with 10 balls to spare.

Coached by Dizzy

Like a long-distance runner hitting the front on the last lap, Yorkshire may well have timed their race to perfection. Midway through the second day of this match, they moved to the top of the Division Two table for the first time this season and, with only two days left of the campaign, look overwhelming favourites to gain promotion.
