It's a fickle world but Steady Eddy has leapfrogged Marsh at this stage and squashed the head of Philbert Hughes. Probably first real stuff up from Ed and Marsh will in turn replace him as opener.
When Cummo is fit he will replace either Sidds or Hilf whoever losses form.

I must say pre summer it was the bowling side that really worried me but I reckon our attack in all test matches including South Africa deserve credit for their efforts. It's a real positive that if everyone was fit the attack that played v England last year over summer would be scattered through an Australian 2nd,3rd or in Beers case a 4th 11.

Already named their 12 for Sydney. Harris in and Christian and Starc out.
Dont think they will change the team but Lyon for Harris could be an option if the SCG is a greentop.
Siddle isnt going anywhere, Hilf has to make way for Cummins when he returns.
Siddle and Pattinson have cemented their spots for a long time barring injuries

So Don Bradman misses a game due to attending the birth of his daughter and the Australian team had a win. So you are saying he won't get a gig in the next game? You pick the best team available.

We are talking about a Bowler who has played what 5 tests, and been sidelined with indjuries a few times. Thats what we are talking about. Of course if you had a player like Bradman out of the side for one game then he would come straight back in. But in todays test side you tell me one player that we would do the same thing that has actually warrented that selection.

The selectors are not doing their job if they don't pick the best team. Conditions change and players become available/unavailable from test to test.

No one cements there spot for a long time. Dizzy had three bad tests in 05 and lost his spot and he was a better bowler than pattinson and siddle for a lot longer time

I'm in the country so I didn't know the team was named. If Dans been left out it's shades of the 19 year old Lehmann. A politically correct selection albeit he was never gonna play

Are you for real

Oh thats right Cricket Australia is anti-South Australia and has bias against them, your kidding arent you while i would be happy if Christian is in the side there is nothing politically motivated about Christians entry and exit from the side.

I suppose your another who thinks Ferguson has been so hard done by in his non test selection.

Don't you judge me buddy or claim to know my agenda. I have never held a grudge against a club with a cardboard wall for a changeroom. They were never gonna play Dan just as they were never gonna play the 19 year old Boofa. Ferguson and your lack of bricks and mortar are not relevant!!!

And im sure Dan Christian love the oppurtunity to be part of a boxing day test match even if it was only in a small role. Some one has to be named as 12th man and miss out!

Whats your point really!

My point was that it was a token selection. He is not going to play test cricket for Australia.

Possibly, they were looking for someone to replace Watson and Christian is without doubt the next best 'Watson'.

Imho if we hadnt collapsed against NZ in the second innings he would have played against India, but once we collapsed they were always going to strengthen the batting with a specialist batsmen. In saying that Christian would have been a better choice than Marsh even just as a batsmen, at least his played in the last 23 years.

Apparently Pat Cummins...

When he is back and firing I would hope that he comes straight back in but I suspect that they will probably give him a few first class games before he is back.

Although if in your last test you take a 5 for and then hit the winning runs, then yeah perhaps you warrent the chance to come straight back in.

My objection is to replacing a bowler with Harris for the SCG test. Regardless of who it is.

Sydney's 100th Test pitch should offer plenty to the fast bowlers on the first day, as the curator Tom Parker said he wanted to emulate the surfaces prepared for the previous two New Year's matches, against England and Pakistan.

WARNE
2/1/1992
The worlds greatest legspinner debuted for Australia
An what a career it ended up being
I can remember Ravi Shastri almost extinguishing his career in that Test

OFF SPINNERS V INDIA TEST MATCHES IN AUSTRALIA

16 JOHNSON 16.3
13 COWPER 18.4
11 YARDLEY 38.3
02 MATTHEWS 118.0
01 TAYLOR 116.0
01 LYON 91.00

Ian Johnson took his 16 wickets @ 16.3 in 1947-1948 when India was emerging
Bob Cowper, who I had thought was a great batsman, took his wickets in 1967-68
Bruce Yardley was passable
But from Matthews in 85-86 to Lyon Australian offies have struggled v India
This confirms my beliefs that off spinners have it really tough on Australian pitches
Even Murali really struggled in Australia

4 FASTIES +
I would play 4 fast bowlers
And perhaps even an allrounder quick
I reckon the best attack would be
PATTINSON
CUMMINS
SIDDLE
HARRIS
WATSON
Australia could barrage these FTBs into submission with an attack of that nature
With Watto injured, I would have selected a blue mooner and picked Mitch Marsh
Marsh bowls about 135 , gets bounce and swing
Australia got away with 3 performing bowlers in Hobart
But blunt them and the Indians might bat a big score soon

LYON
I would only select Lyon for 1 reason
Dropping him would signify a lack of confidence in his ability
But then again , playing him all 4 test and ending up with an average of 50+ wont thrill him either
