How do you know it's a late change? Sides were never put up since the rain delayed play

Sounds like Thornton showed enough promise to persist with him for while.
Feel sorry for the poor bugger, gets a late call up to open and then under overcast damp conditions the skipper wins the toss and sends him in to bat.

Totally agree. Michael klinger owes him and the other batsmen a few beers for making them bat first
