Harris
Smith (300 in 3 digs at district level this year)
Klinger
Ferguson
Cooper
Doropoulos
Christian
Crosthwaite
O Brien(can hold down end ,puts pressure on)
Putland
George

Blizzard/Dougall/borgas back up batters, whoever puts pressure on at district level
Kelly/Mennie back up Bowlers

Bailey : Cant get wickets, bowls alot of overs, not that good

Think Trent Kelly might play next week in Tassie. Definitely worth a shot.

Putland out, Mennie no star, and Sayers hammy doubt, not many other options.

He has bowled very well in tandem with Georgey this year, with Georgey hardly taking a wicket and Kelly leading the District wickets taken by a street.

He will give a 110%, and although he may be a yard short in pace to trouble the top batsmen, and does not swing it quite as much as say a Sayers, dont think we have much to lose.

There has been some positives for SA already this year. Putland has proven himself to be a very good bowler, and George has continued on his ever reliable way. Cooper has stepped up and his form so far suggests he could be very good for SA in the middle order.

Chuck Berry said he would place a lot of emphasis on district cricket and Smith is deserving of his opportunity. The kid is only young, and could be a huge talent. Maxy is batting too high and Ferg is exposed too early, its the obvious choice.

Dan Christian's runs are a bonus, you need runs from your number 6 and it should'nt be this guy. I have no educated suggestions on who it should be, but they will need to be able to support Putland, George, Christian and Bailey with the ball. Sayers and Doropolous are the only contracted players who can realistically play this position. Obrien also to a lesser extent.

I really rated Ludeman's thirty odd last game, lets see what he produces this dig.

Putland
George

Scenario 2: WACA type wickets

Christian
O Brien (started playing State cricket as a Bat) or Bailey (each way bet really)
Sayers (bowl 1st change - can hold a bat) or Richardson

That is the best looking team we could put out but unfortunately even that side wont get anywhere near winning a shield.

Like the balance of those teams i think Smith to open and Klinger to 3 is the logical choice. Crosthwaite and O Brien certainly strengthen the middle/late order

I decided a couple of years ago that go with the flow with the Redbacks especially in sheffield shield format,as at start of each season they are a great chance to play in the final but constantly let down. What i would be most dissapointed with SA having none or very little amount of players representing Australia that we virtually have a full list to choose from we are still underperform each season.

Well from the game just finished:
Tom Cooper is the stand out, hit his highest first class score 98, in the first innings, then beat that with a match saving 203*. Absolutely the big thing to take out of this match, and if we can get a reasonable opener to partner Harris, then a middle order combo of Klinger, Ferguson and Cooper starts to look quite solid. The big if there is finding Harris a partner, otherwise we get an extra spud batsman in the top five.
Daniel Christian batted well with Cooper in the second dig to save the game, his 96 was not just a good innings, but the fact that he batted for 225 deliveries, is more of a positive in my eyes, rather than his first innings (25 from 31) where he just tried to Botham us out of trouble.
Those were the only two positives, however there are big negatives:
Ben Dougall, six & 14, not ready for FC cricket.
Aiden Blizzard, 4 & one, not good enough.
Tim Ludeman, two & 4*, he is a hack at this level.
Ferguson, 20 and 17, two starts, and could not go on. Did no favours to detract his knockers.
Joe Mennie, 0/81 (19). It is not good enough for a first class bowler to bowl near twenty overs and not take a wicket, but he also went at over four an over, didn't even keep it quiet.

Mennie seems to be a tad expensive at this level. First game he went at over 3 an over as well but took 3 wickets...

Yes there were a few positives but the i think the negatives far out weigh them.
Putland's injury is a big loss.
Our first innings was woeful apart from Cooper and Bailey's efforts.
At the end of the day we still got zero points and are equal bottom of table.
Great to see we didnt capitulate today

crosthwaite at 6 is a worry. O'Brien is one of the players we do not need IMO. Not dangerous with bat or ball.
Cooper has to stay at 4, ferguson at 5 so he can play his natural game

Crossy has to and has the ability to bat 6 at SS level.... reckon he did for Vic when he played there! No one else in the current squad can apart from Blizzard (while not in form, got the runs on the board last season)

O'Brien and Bailey add a bit of both, OB is better/consistant bowler than Bailey. Lyon naturally plays when available.

Dont mind that, Ferg at 5 and cooper at 4 sounds ok. Good thinking, he can come in hopefully when a score is on the board and play free of the new rock.
