Selectors made a mistake. IMO dropping Krejza and keeping Smith, therefore having Smith at 8, Johnson at 9.

Smith/Krejza, well honsetly not much difference in the spinners there. If our bowlers cant do the job with the ball, we might aswell bat a bit lower and try and make an extra 40 to defend.

Krejza simply did not learn throughout the series. What gets me, why didnt his captain, coach or bowling coach, tell him to bowl alot fuller. He bowled too short the entire world cup

So if you want a batsmen at 8 pick Ferg who averages 48 compared to Smith's 26. That is silly anyway to suggest we bat down to 8. Pick Hopes who can bat and bowl, unlike Smith

Despite his courageous knock, Ponting must go. That kind of innings will take a lot out of him and will take longer and longer to reproduce. The time has come Ricky. You've served us well.

Jim, constantly you and I are on the same page with this one. I completely agree. We need to have a different approach now that we're not at the top of the tree. I think CA will try and coast along and move these guys out graciously. But realistically if Tim Nielsen wants to keep his job, and thinks the WC is the long term goal, then we need to get 4 years of international cricket into the list you've mentioned.

Ultimately, what's the point of keeping the old guys in and perhaps winning a home series against England, NZ or West Indies when a few losses here and there wont hurt us providing they show some vision in building for the WC in 2015/2016?

In my view the Aussies simply didnt pick thier best team all summer, rather the selectors seem to have their world cup side picked 2 years ago irrespective of how they performed in the mean time.

How would have this team fared over there last night???

1. Watson - our best player by a mile ATM
3. Hodge- had to be playing
2. Haddin - had to play & performed
4. Ponting - well a proven big game player with class, had to play
Clarke - most overrated and unreliable player in past 12 months, sick of everyone blowing wind up his ****, the blokes got no grit!
5. M Hussey -gun
6. D Hussey - had to be playing regularly the entire tournament, gives great flexibility
7. Ferguson
8. O'Keefe - bats and bowls very well
9. MJ - X-factor.....maybe but needs to show some grit, shows nothing when this are getting tough. Would ahppily swap with James Hopes
10. Stewy Clarke - just tie down an end like McGrath was so good at doing. He won't get wickets but everyone else will.....ask Brett Lee
11. Brett Lee

sort of agree with what you guys are saying but if, say a mike hussey is making runs everytime he walks out there you cant drop him on the basis that he wont be around come 2015/16

This 2011 team was ok
The quicks bowled well enough as a unit
The batsman did thier jobs
The fielding was good enough

What AU lacked was a spinner/spinners that are World Class
To go to the Sub cont with a spinner who is considered the 2nd choice spinner for TA and the motley crew of part timers was the weakness
Nathan Hauritz was the one player that was missed
His even consistent ODI bowling would have been handy

If this World Cup had been played in some other parts of the world , AU would have been almost or favourites to win the Cup

The 2011 team was crap. When Watson didn't dominate they'd be lucky to win a chook raffle. Yeah we've got no decent spinner that's true but let's have a real look at the rest.

Watson. Our most valuable cricketer but the guy doesn't get centuries.
Haddin. A great cricketer but a seriously dumb cricketer and that won't change. His shot to get out last night was ridiculous and for a player with his ability he is a serious underperformer with the bat. Throws his wicket away far too often.
Punter. Gone. Even with last night's ton. When you are relying on emotion rather than technique and eye then sorry you are gone. Time for the tap on the shoulder.
Clarke. Test matches only. Not hitting it off the square.
Mr Cricket. Great one day player but the selectors didn't give him a chance. Fly him over at the start of the tournament and we might have got some value out of him.
White. Shit. Piss him off. How does he get his big hitting reputation?
D Hussey. Not really given a chance just so we could watch the same guys fail and fail again
Smith. Give the kid a bowl. I'd rather Smith than Punter. Give the kid a bowl.
Johnson. Hit and miss and no good away from the WACA
Lee. A fantastic ODI bowler, but how much is left in the tank.
Krejza. Had a crack and not his fault he's not up to the task.
Tait. Absolute Rubbish.
Paine. Why wasn't this guy given a game ahead of White?
Ferg. Why wasn't this guy given a game ahdead of White?
Hastings. Why wasn't he given a game instead of Tait?

THE SELECTORS - THIS SQUAD WAS NEVER GOING TO WIN THE CUP. NO GOOD SAYING THIS TEAM WOULD HAVE WON IN ENGLAND AS THIS CUP WAS PLAYED IN INDIA. THE SPINNERS PROBLEM IS A TOUGH ONE BUT WE WENT WITH THREE ATTACKING FAST BOWLERS ON A ROAD. YOU PERSISTED WITH SHIT PLAYERS LIKE WHITE AND YOU DROPPED THE WRONG BLOKE WHEN M HUSSEY WAS EVENTUALLY PROMOTED.

An allround **** up really and it is not only Tait, White and Punter who should receive a tap on the shoulder.

The blokes rubbish mal. He was successful in the 2007 tournament because when you have mcgrath, lee and co at the other end, sides attacked him with the mindset that its their opportunity to score and failed. Fast forward to 2011 and when you have rubbish coming in from both ends its an open serve from taits bowling.

Yeah, he frightened the bag out of the minnows and couldn't do a thing against anyone with talent. The full toss in the ganguly's wouldv'e been his only claim to fame for the tourney.
You can take wickets as a paceman in the sub-continent, you just have to bowl at the 3 uprights, Zaheer seems to go alright.

No point with individual slags - Collectively Australia's team is not as good as those that will qualify for the semi's. No one got left behind who should have gone. This is the best that Aus have.

Got it in one. Unfortunately the legacy of having a superstar like Gilchrist opening one day matches is now we expect all of our keepers to do it. When Haddin got out lagt night, I remarked it will cost us the game, and I still believe it did. He had to turn that 53 into a ton, but once again failed to do so.

This isn't saying I wouldn't play Haddin, I just think we need to find more effective openers to be successful in World Cups in future.
