I'd make it that the top 8 ranked ODI teams automatically qualify for the World Cup at a certain time, then the other two Test playing nations fight it out with the other sides to make the last two spots.

I know it was meant to speed things up gadj, but they could also have sped things up by not having Australia have a full week or more between most of its games.

The current set-up and the 10-round-robin series both take 44-45 qualifying games by my calculations. With the round-robin of 5 in a pool, it only takes 20 games, so a few more games could be played can be spent on the business end.
Agree Spelly, the final is unlikely to be the best of three because they want to make it a big television event, but I reckon the tournament deserves it

I don't really care how long it takes, it's once every 4 years so IMO they need to give everyone equal opportunity to perform at the optimum level for a period of time to determine who is the best ODI team in the world.
I'd prefer to see everyone play each other once and then the top 4 play off or something similar like they did in the 91/92 WC. Every team is bound to have at least one bad day and it shouldn't be so detrimental to their finals hopes, maybe cut it back to 8 and let them have a round robin, as much as I like to see the minnows given an opportunity, none of them are going to ever win it. They can play in the minnow cup at the same time, imagine any of them facing Tait, Lee or Johnson on the WACA, the only reason thay are competitive is because of the tracks they are playing on.

I don't care how long it takes either, but surely there has to be a better way than playing all these meanigless qualifying games and then get to this stage and all the games are suddenly knockouts.

I reckon there is room for one or two minnows, and reckon it woul be interesteing iof say the Windies or NZ suddnely found themselves in a situaion where they had to win to stay in the top group for the next Cup.

I think the conversation about speeding things up and therefore making the competition take less time is bollocks.

Look at the soccer world cup, that goes for ages.

Who cares if it takes 3 weeks, 9 weeks.....it's the ultimate test of who is the best country in the world at the format. It should be a prolonged process. I think most people here feel like it's a bit rich to be knocked out in the quarters from a narrow loss.

As far as the minnows go, leave them in. They need to be in for the promotion of the game in their country. Imagine the outcry if the AFL decided to say "nup, you bottom 8 ranked sides, you go play somewhere else".

Nice Dedj!

This is abysMAL from the Windians, Shivvy aside, and he's batting in his crab like stance, with a crab-like strike rate.

Absolutely piss weak by the Windies, as ive said all tournament they are flat track bullies against minnows but rubbish against quality bowling.
Afridi the star once again with 4/30 and Gul was no suprise he is a quality ODI bowler, have really been suprised with Hafeez this wc and tonight he took 2/16 off 10 overs, surely that is one of the most economical spells ever in WC history.
Pakis to pass it in a canter, probably 15-20 overs.
