I agree with your assessment of Doherty, however apart from this little spell, this is the first time he's (Smith) really done anything...

Has been underused IMO
Can see him getting wickets in subcontinent
Id play smith and okeefe in tandem in wc.
Okeefe skids them on and on crumbly indian wickets he can cause damage.
Doherty is just rubbish, a containing bowler not a wicket taker

I've been in and out all day and paying some attention to ch9 and the Adelaide match. Right from Lee's first cherry which gave away five runs I've been worried that Aus is being outplayed right across the board.
