Notice to the Selectors.

The experiment of playing Manou as a top 6 batsmen has failed dismally in recent seasons and yet you idiots continue with it. DUMB DUMB DUMB.

It's not as if the top 5 batsmen are Phillips, Nobes, Blewett, Lehmann & Hookes where you would get away with it.

What makes this more perplexing is that Christian and Obrien have contributed well with the bat in the various forms of the game this season, and still bat below him
The experiment of batting Manou in the top 6 in recent seasons has not worked

Jacko, you are obviously not very old or you would not make that comment. I cannot argue that his SACA form with the bat this year has not been very good, and last year he hardly played so difficult to judge. BUT his last full season, batting at No. 6, he made 600+ runs, which got him an Ashes tour and a Test. AND yes, I am the chairman of the Graham Manou appreciation group.

SACA had put themselves in a spot in the middle order with playing Christian and O'Brien as allrounders, one of these two in association with Manou has to bat 6, so they can play the extra bowler. Personally I think out of the three of them, they can average what two good batters would and that is obviously what the selectors are hoping.

Manou for whatever reason has always received an armchair ride by the SACA and never delivers consistently. I have been saying for years to move him out yet they push him up the order. Opening with him in the 20/20 was farcical.

Who should bat 6/7/8 [my stats should be close to the mark]
2008-2009 season
MANOU 647 RUNS ....AVE 46....batted 6 all bar 2 innings
OBREIN 402 RUNS....AVE 36.....batted 7 all bar 2 innings
CHRISTIAN 62 RUNS..AVE 12....batted 7 and 8

2009-2010 season
MANOU 90 RUNS.......AVE 18.....batting 6 only played 5 innings
OBREIN 437 RUNS.....AVE 37......mainly at 6 when MANOU didnt play, 7 when he did
CHRISTIAN 267 RUNS..AVE 26....batting 7+8
LUDENHAM 193 RUNS..AVE 24...batting 8 bar 2 innings

MANOU had a good season 2008/2009
But generally he suffers from Marcusnorth syndrome, he is very hit or miss
2009/2010 he had 5 digs for 40/8/0/16/26

OBREIN is the opposite to MANOU, very consistent and always digs in and values his wicket
If he batted 6 he would have more time to build on his lotsa 20-30-40 scores he makes

CHRISTIAN batting 8 gives him very little opportunity to build an innings
If he batted 6, he would be a bit like MANOU as can be hit or miss
But I would bat him 6 b4 Manou and give him an opportunity at some stage

LUDDENHAM batting at 8 gives him little opportunities, batted 7 twice and made 62 in one of those digs

This season after the ist dig in the current game
MANOU
42...0
14...DNB
0
batting at 6, so far in the last 2 seasons Manou has a highest score of 42 in 9 innings
he really is struggling for runs, and if the number 6 batter is outa form it puts a strain on the team

OBREIN
37...57*
12...DNB
22
batting 8 this year, in his last 19 innings in the last 2 seasons has made 2 half tons
also has only made less than 10 in 4 of those innings

CHRISTIAN
0...13
23...DNB
30
now batting at 7 and that gives him more of a chance of making bigger scores
but in general has been dismissed for too many low scores even batting at 8
his 4 day batting form is nowhere near the dynamic 50 over batting this guy can produce
but I reckon if he bats 6 and makes a decent score, gets his confidence up, he could be the answer
problem is it has relegated OBRIEN back to number 8

Please note I have only summised the SS scores with my last 2 posts

I hope he makes a 100 in the next innings. Might shut a few of you up.

There is clearly daylight between Manou and Ludeman in regards to glovework and batting.

interesting comment, would almost be impossible for ludeman to do worse than manou in his last innings so daylight might be out the question.

with SA 4/32 at the moment this is Manou's time, needs a big score, still our best gloveman but needs to bat 7 or 8

Mal, I am happy with those stats to go with O'brien 6, Manou 7, Christian 8. Would also give O'Brien batting higher to pusher for other honors should he take some bags and make some runs.

Can't let that one go outside off CA, go back a few years, early 2000's, when the cricket world was saying he was the best keeper in Australia outside Gilly (who no one would replace anyway) and he suffered from his lack of runs and the SACA selectors replaced him for some time with Deitz. Brod would be able to give us Deitz's first class batting stats, but was in a different league with the gloves and I think he might have cost us a game or two with vital mistakes, especially on last day or two when keeping on first class grounds becomes difficult. I agree with the 20/20 opening, his really only big shot is over mid wicket, bit hard when they are bowling at 140 and moving the ball.

One day domestic stats last 3 seasons

2008/2009
CHRISTAIN... 151 @30 batted various from 5-8
MANOU.........105 @21 batted 6+7 all season
OBRIEN.........156 @31 batted 6+7 and 1 dig at 5

2009/2010
CHRISTAIN.....288@ 48 batting 5-8 spots
MANOU..........101 @16 mainly at 4
OBREIN...........116@23 mostly at 7

2010/2011
CHRISTAIN.......65@ 22 batting at 6
MANOU...........95 @ 95 batting at 7 !!!!!!!!!!![2 not outs]
OBREIN............70 @ 70 batting at 8 [2 not outs]

MANOU batting at 7 this season is doing extremely well in the Ryobi Cup this season, after dudding mainly at 4 last season
CHRISTIAN going well up in the order especailly last season, hit or miss in SS, but remarkably consistent in the 50 over games, has not made below 11 in 2 seasons !
OBREIN bats well wherever, ultra consistent

manou broke the record for most dismissals for a sa keeper today. great effort and well done. time now to step aside. best for sa cricket and australian cricket to have the youngster ludeman in the team. manou lost the ability to bat and fast losing it with gloves. move over as time to go

it is 2010 nearly 2011 and the bull is talking nearly 10 years ago. the past is long gone and time to step aside as only half the player from even 2 years ago. talking about the early 2000's now. stuck in a time warp and let go. give up the appreciation society as no good for sa cricket
