The big worry for me remains Mitchell Johnson. While he has talent and can bowl some unplayable deliveries the fact remains that he leaks runs badly when not taking wickets and without a decent spinner in the attack we are going to struggle to take enough wickets to win the series. Bolly, Harris and Hilf should be our quicks in this test.

Agreed REB.
He really is terrible and I've been calling for his head for a long time.
Far too erratic to be playing Test cricket.
I'd like to see Cameron from NSW have a go some time soon too.

If the few ODI's are anything to go by he needs to be taken aside and reminded how to bowl line and lenght. Bowling that short and outside off CARP is ridiculous. Sure to throw a batsmen off put one out there every now and then, but not 4 balls in the over! :?

Haha. I'm not saying he should play in the Ashes, but I'd definitely like to see him have a crack over the next year or so.

In 13 matches he's taken 62 wickets at 23.5 with 5 wickets in an innings 5 times and 10 for the match twice.
Not bad figures in 13 matches.
Problem is he's nearly 30 and it's taken him 9 years to play 13 matches meaning he's probably very injury prone.
Selectors would be reluctant to select an injury prone 30 year old for his test debut I would've thought.
Pity he wasn't a few years younger.
Bandwagon dismantled. ;)

Heard hilditch interview. Dont think harris will play. Hasnt been rested this weekend. His knee has flared up quite bad and they are worried about his fitness. Wouldnt have been able to bowl this next game so i think he would be doubtful. I think smithy could come in they want him as a batsman who bowls a few overs. If he makes runs for aus A i think he will be in for hauritz. Hilfy and johnno definates and bolly and sids fighting for last spot. Thats just what it sounded like.

Outstanding call by our national selectors. Advising some time ago that the Ashes Squad will be named on 15/11, the media jump all over it and we have Hilditch appearing on TV naming the squad, only to realise that we have a full round of SS matches and a tour match. Well dam me, why don't we just sit on the fence "they said", we will name a squad of half the players playing SS cricket and no one can criticise us until next week. Pretty hard to soar with the eagles when dealing with turkeys.

Australia's attack for the Gabba Test is not set in stone, but they are taking no chances with any of their fast bowlers in the lead-up to the match. Peter Siddle, Ben Hilfenhaus and Ryan Harris will all be rested this week, with Mitchell Johnson and Doug Bollinger the only members of the pace attack who will take part in the round of Sheffield Shield games starting on Wednesday.

The incumbent top 6 is really firing. With Clarke injured and Ponting yet to bat, the other 4 have made 23 runs between them

Hang on. We are home. That sort of headline greeted the 1986/87 English team and the 1989 Australians who both won comfortably.
