Is there a way to increase the consistency of players who make the SS side? Seems to me that over the past few years, whenever a young new player is brought into the side they start ok for the 1st couple of innings then die away, and are quickly replaced or forgotten.

I mean blokes like Klinger who make runs occupy decent time at the crease, who else ever seems to bat more than a session or two?

We've brought in some consistent players. What about Ryan Harris and Cosgrove?

yep then failed to maintain them. Cossie is good but another bloke who to me scores his runs quickly but lacks the patience and temprament to bat for a few sessions and make consistant big scores. Really punching out 40's 50's 60's isnt good enough IMO, needs to be converting to bigger scores and building bigger partnerships..

mal wrote:The state of our cricket
There seems to be a stagnate of young cricketers ebbing into the SS team
SA has futhered its squad with allstate importations

The eleven for the first SS gig in 2010
HARRIS.....SA
SMITH......SA
KLINGER....VI
BORGAS.......SA
BLIZZARD....VI
MANOU.......SA
OBREIN........NS
CHRISTIAN...NS
DUVAL.........SA-TA-SA
CASSELL.......VI
EDMONDSON..WA

For the sake of sakes I will endorse Duvall as a recruit
That leaves 4 of the squad [as I believe] being SA players

So I will ask the question, which players shall SA recruit in 2011/2012 to replace the 4 local boys ?
This is my replacement SS list of players not getting regular gig for thier states as of now
HARRIS-JEWELL
SMITH - BIRT
BORGAS-POMERSBACH
MANOU-CROTHSWAITE

Then we can call our team the South Allaustralians

Ok , enough bullcrapping, whats the solution for home grown talent ?
Klinger, Christian have been very good for SA cricket and I say dont say never recruit
BUT
We cant expect to be a dominant state until we produce some more of our own gooduns

SA team for the Last game of the year V TA

HARRIS SA
SMITH SA
KLINGER VI
MOFFATT SA
BLIZZARD VI
MANOU SA
BAILEY SA
SAYERS SA
LYON SA ??? started career in SA
PUTLAND SA
HABERFIELD SA

Arguably 9 South Australians in this team[Lyon ?]
Ferguson, George,Borgas, Tait ? are the SA players that could also play
Its taken till the last game to get a near all SA team on the park

Im not against recruiting, as long as the policy is to recruit youngish Interstaters
The occasional experienced recruit is fine as well

BOWLING
This season was almost wasted
To recruit Edmonson, Cassel, Lang, who are either too old, or in Cassells case rejigging after a several year injury absence, was puzzling
Recuiting one of them , absolutely correct to bolster the bowling stocks, but all 3 was ?????
Edo was outstanding in the Ryobi Cup, Cassell improved as the season went on, Lang is Languishing in the district ranks[ ?]

BATTING
There is now some critiscism of sacking Cosi
But Blizzard has replaced him , and done well in the SS + Im sure he will blossom in the shorter forms of cricket next season
Blizzard at 26 years of age was worth a gamble

SUMMARY
Limit the recruiting next season, concentrate on this group of bowlers currently playing
Give them at least half a season as a unit, without being in and out of the team
The batting ???
Just dunno, individually they have performed well at times, just that they didnt click together often enough
The batting solution is prob hope for the best, or maybe look at a good established recruit

This leaves perhaps room for a batsman as the only recruit next season
If Manou does retire, then also a keeper, Crothswaite will be in contention if Manou does not play

Anyways, its almost OUR STATE MATE in the current match.

KG isn't shy in saying what he feels in this article, including about the lack of home grown talent representing SA....

I don't know enough about Jamie Cox to agree or disagree with KG, but the rest of the article definately sounds like something he could have read here on safooty ;) In other words, I reckon it's what a large percentage of the South Aust public are thinking

From adelaidenow: http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/cri ... 6020063184

“FORMER South Australian captain Ken "KG" Cunningham has called for cricket director Jamie Cox to resign following the poor season for South Australia.
Cunningham believes legendary SA skipper Les Favell would be "turning in his grave" at the state's continued on-field failure, unattractive style, poor player development and zero representation in the 2011 Centre of Excellence intake.”

KG is saying it from the heart. what has marsh and cox done for this state for the development of our players? do we have too many grade teams? should it get reduced to 10 teams so that we can produce the quailty players that is needed. The last AIS squad that was named had no-one from SA but about 8 from NSW.

And its not just the blokes struggling

2011-12 Southern Stars (Women) squad
Shelly Nitschke
is the only SA player (also the oldest in the squad) in the squad of 20

2011-12 Shooting Stars (Women u-21) squad
Tamara Clapton
Megan Schutt
are the only 2 SA players in a squad of 17

3 SA players out of 37 :(
