Hopefully this match will signal the end of Brett Lee's World Cup aspirations. I have always thought of Lee as an all brawn no brains bowler and he showed this again last night. Lee steams in and always has a crack but there's no tricks in the bag. His blast them out days are over.

As for Cowan one of the shots he played last night had to be seen to be believed. He hit one ball outside off stump off the back of the bat that went for four. Never seen anything like it. NSW have improved in the shorter form of the game but the Tigers remain a formidable opponent and will most likely front up against the Bushrangers in the final again.

regards,

REB

Cowan is given not out
Replays showed it was a clear catch
Haddin must feel kinda stoopidish now

Boom Boom Birt smashes then again, just a matter of time b4 he gets a green cap call up in 50 over games

Khawaja a star SS batsman, but is wasted batting 5 in these games
If he does not bat 1-2-3 he should not be selected

Maddinson looked OK and looks extremely talented

Ah, yes I'm a massive fan of Trav Birt, very powerful and clean striker of the ball. I hope he gets the chance to have a crack for Aus in the ODI arena.

44.5
Hogan to Wade, SIX, short outside the off stump. Wade is waiting on the backfoot and pulled it over midwicket for a superb six. The arms go up, a primal cry and a hug from Harwood as he reaches his century

Hogan was asked if he liked the split innings format just then "No", he said.

Greatest thing I've heard tonight.

He doesn't like it, and he took 5-for!

I did notice when they went back to Mark Waugh and Brendon Julian, they didn't talk about it further.
I'll bet you that some of the commentators don't like it, but are gagged to say so.

Outstanding performances in this game
HOGAN 5/44[12] didnt know he could bowl this well
WADE 101*[81] Ive raved about this guy for 2 seasons now, nothings changed, sensational young keeper batsman
DAVIS 108[125] made runs against a very good VI attack
NORTH 94*[97] when he gets going he is very very impressive

Those 4 guys dominated
SIDDLE 1/52[11]
Those figures lie
He was fast and bowled well
Pity his skipper didnt give him a first slip when DAVIS was on strike ....
May be 4th in line behind RUG/HILF.MJ for an Aussie spot, but I reckon he is gunna have a big season

WA thrashed the Vics, but apart form HOGAN have no fast bowlers of note , will need to rely on the hit or miss batting line up
WA were fortunate to first when conditions helped

VI will bounce back

45 OVER FORMAT
I enjoy it better
No more 5th bowlers who bowl rubbish/darts etc
We now get 45 overs of good bowlers and makes the game better for it
Its now a game of tactics, and I commend the ACB for having the courage to introduce this format

Wade- Is he going to hurt Tim Paine? When Haddin retires in a few years, are they going to skip past Paine?
Hogan- Until yesterday, he had 8 wickets in 10 ODD games- can he continue the improvement- looked great yesterday.
North- Very good state player.
Davis- I have a real hard on for this guy, as a future international opener.

New format- I never thought about it like that Mal!

i like the fact that ive only gone to about half of each of sa's matches so far but have seen both sides bat and bowl and i the point in the middle adds some interest. i also like the 2 bouncer rule.

what i dont like though is that we have lost 5 overs, each bowler can bowl 12 and each field restrictions

the reason i dont like this is because the spinners are now very hard to use as there are only 4 men allowed out the ring so it is very hard to defend for a spinner, the extra 2 overs that the pacemen can bowl and teh fact tehre are 5 over less severely reduces the impact the spinners have. even the tasmanians doherty and krezja bowled very little in the only game tassie have played that has been on the line - the last 2 games tehy have bowled but teh game has been all over. this is despite doherty being easily the best spinner in one day domestic cricket.

so in summary i think teh best result would be
split teh 50 into 2 25's, 2 points for half way leader, 10 overs per bowler

QL V VI
What a game
VI 6/297 [45].....QL 1/103 at half time
HODGE 108[98] He simply is in astonsihing form for a 35 year old
FINCH 84[93] Who is the idiot who said he wouldnt make the grade ....
WADE 45[43] opening the batting this time, whatta player

6/296[44.5]
QL bring the field up for the last ball of the VI innings, everyone saving the single
What the .........?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
VI scamper a single
Find out after that it was because of the Duckworth Lewis system
Can anyone believe this farce, a side on the verge of 300 of 45 overs get beaten if rain washes out play at this stage

After 2 balls of the QL innings it rains
New equation after
243 OFF 36 OVERS
141 [106] the reduction helps QL
They come back on and it rains intermittently for the rest of the night
This was the needed total at the end of each over and the scores

21 ..1/110.....QL 1/111 if it rains QL win by 1 run
22...1/118.....QL 1/120..QL by 2 runs
23...1/125.....QL 2/126 ????
24...2/136.....QL 2/133...VI by 3runs
25...2/143.....QL 2/139 need 4 to tie when rain stops play after 23.5 overs

Phone call, finish later

QL 2-139 [23.5]
Players off for 25 mins
WHITE is complaining to the umps, throwing his hands in the air
They resume
QL now need 194 off 30 overs
New target 55 off 31 balls with 8 wickets left, QL now favs if the rain abstains
Cleary bowls the last ball of his over, only 1 run
2/140 [24]
Par score needed after the next completed over 2/153, or by ball = QL can tie with a 4 next ball bowled etc
Rain hits
They are off again
This time the game is finished
VI are awarded the game by 4 runs
QL agonisingly short, but were advantged by using a power play straight away in the preceding last few overs

RESULT
VI did not deserve to lose
QL in the box seat if it didnt rain late in the game
Fielders, batters , bowlers all reading sheets ball by ball on the field
The pressure on the umps was unfair, this game hung in the balance several times, and at times on the ball to be bowled
Pressure on the groundstaff to check the weather by radar etc etc

MAN OF THE MATCH
Brad Hodge, the Bradman of Domestic O/d games in the last 2 seasons
