My two cents, I'd take Hilfenhaus over Siddle any day of the week.

In their brief Test careers, the following is fact:

Hilf, on average, bowls 36 overs per Test

I stand corrected.

Hilf for the Ashes!

Now this may be weird, as firstly you admitted you were wrong, and secondly was i was shown i was right ;) i will admit those stats are a bit off IMO.

From my memory, Siddle has been injured twice in his test match career in the first innings, and possibly even the first session, thus giving him less opportunity to prove his workhorse mentality.

For what its worth, there both workhorses IMO but moreso the HILF

I'm very, very scared of what may happen this summer.

Be interesting to see what happens during those one day matches in England this winter.

There's not enough room for all of them in the side mate.

Geez, that's a bit harsh.

I know Punter's on a bit of a slide - 1 Test century in his last 21 innings, and that thanks to a dropped catch early on - but rating him even with an 8 Test Match rookie? I've got more faith than that.

I would actually lean the other way on some of these ratings:
Collingwood v Hussey - Eng
Bell v North - Eng
Prior v Haddin - (Glovework: Eng; Batting - Aus)
Anderson v Bollinger - Aust

Looks like a good series coming up. Although I am a member of the Barmy Army I still think Australia will win by at least a two test margin.

Cheers

Have to agree with Pottsy there, although I like what I've seen with Trott.

What will be interesting is to see how well Trott is doing come the Ashes. There has been quite a few English cricketers who have debuted in the last 6 or 7 years and started their careers spectacularly and then fall away after 6-10 matches ...

-Bell
-Bopara
-Pietersen & Strauss (to a lesser extent)
-Geraint Jones
-Robert Key
-Cook
-Monty

On a side note, I think Strauss might have a big summer. Was very unlucky on the last tour here, copped a couple of shockers.

Ponting v Trott -Ponting
Pieterson v Clarke -Pieterson
Collingwood v Hussey - Hussey
Anderson v Bollinger - Bollinger- REB's right he doesn't take wickets and IF he's going to he has to find a new weapon besides swing.

Agree on Anderson - needs the conditions to be right. No tests in Tassie. Although, he could be a danger if it's overcast and the ball is moving early in Syd/Bris and he can get the ball to hoop. But everything would have to be going his way.

Injuries as always will impact this series. Bresnan has pulled out of the 2nd Test v Bangladesh due to stress fractures in the foot and they have recalled Sidebottom, another player who burst onto the test scene, but fell over due to injury.

Should our opening batsmen be encouraged by the fact the Tamim Iqbal (opening batsmen for Bangladesh) has passed fifty five of the last six times he has played against
the Poms?
Are the English opening bowlers any good???

Hows Broad going in that series? He seemed to carve us up a little in the last Ashes series. Surely its not just the Aussies that he takes wickets against..
