Not a bad pick up. After struggling to get a regular spot in WA's line up over the last couple of seasons he'll be a worthy replacement for clearly

No surprise.....

South Australia are resigned to being without the powerful allrounder Kieron Pollard for the Champions League in South Africa in September and are still waiting to learn whether Shahid Afridi will be available. Pollard and Afridi were key components in the Redbacks qualifying for the lucrative Twenty20 event, but they were not part of the state's 20-man preliminary squad for the tournament.

South Australia squad Daniel Harris, James Smith, Michael Klinger (capt), Cameron Borgas, Aaron O'Brien, Graham Manou (wk), Daniel Christian, Gary Putland, Peter George, Callum Ferguson, Kane Richardson, Michael Cranmer, Jake Haberfield, Tim Ludeman, Shaun Tait, Tom Cooper, Chris Duval, Joel Davies, Cullen Bailey, Daniel Cullen.

Joel Davies, great to see him in the squad. Had a fantastic season with Port in 09/10 and has been rewarded, well done Joel.

Darren Berry has been signed as a consultant for the Champions League too.

Lets hope playing games at Glenelg will help and give bowlers a chance in shield games, waste of time playing on flat deck at Adelaide Oval, the declarations to produce results.

Shield cricket will remain at Adelaide Oval, as will One Day and T20 domestic games. Glenelg is a back option should Adelaide Oval be booked for a revenue raising event that clashes with a shield game (such as the case of last season when the Rugby 7's would have clashed with the shield final had we earned the right to host it - only a little short of that goal).

What are everyones thoughts on the depth of talent in this state, and the decisions by SACA in recent years to recruit rather than promote home grown talent? For example, is Ludeman that much of a better option than say Davey from TTG. Would it be better to promote SA players than try t recycle interstate players?

The Ludeman example is a bad one for me... He's in my best XI over Choc Manou...

I think one issue is the lack of real home grown talent in SA at the moment.

I think they may as well pick off the young talent from other states, and give them a chance, that they wouldn't get interstate....

Then again, we're only ferg, max, and nine other hacks, so it doesn't make any difference, ey?

Klinger is a Victorian and is the Redbacks best bat. If you dont have the talent you need to look elsewhere. Instaed of picking up mature recruits who havn't made it at there home state, you need to look at and poach young guns like Victoria did with Wade ( Tas ) and Tasmania did with Watson ( Qld ). SA should of looked at the U/19 's winning world cup side and tried to poach one of the qualitiy players and offerd them the world, full contract etc......

what exactly is our side going to look like?

harris would open, with klinger & ferg batting 3 & 4.

after that, i'm fairly lost!

SACA should be keep a close eye on the junior championships with the teams that have no Senior First Class cricket. Surely the ACT would have some young cricketers desperate to play at the highest level when they have no hope of their closest side in NSW.

smac, check your mail, glenelg council or whoever they are have a guarentee that a certain amount of matches will be played at glenelg oval next year, why else would they open the coffers in excess of 100k to re develop their oval. you can take that as gospel, they are guarenteed matches over a certain period. I was told specifics last year but memory not too good so cant remember what exactly, but this will happen. just so happens a certain retired curator was involved in the work they did down there. yes, you can quote me. :D

marble, i think you r way off the mark saying ludeman should be there instead nof manou. manou is considered best keeper in aus although i must admit haddin has certainly improved in last year or nso. granted he had injuries nlast year but no doubt will bounce back this year and make shit load of runs and keep well like we have been used to. in fact having said that i am going out on a limb and tipping saca for 1 and 4 day comp this year, fergie back firing, max making plenty, tait slinging down at 160m plus, choco solid and making runs, georgie progressing and taking poles, o'brien turning them square, sorry getting carried away now.

Hopefully Punter convinces Sloon to have another go at first class cricket and ultimately Tests. No need to bowl him in long spells just 5 or 6 over bursts at the start of the day just before lunch maybe then right at the end of the day when the light is a little thin...... :)
