Wayne Daniel needed 5 off 2 balls to win and smacked a six off the first ball off a Mick Malone long hop that said please hit me ... a tad different from requiring six off the last ball to tie I would have thought.

Pedantics aside, fancy bowling a no-ball in that situation! ;)

Apologies for going off course, but you will find the match in here:

http://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Seaso ... 90-91.html

They played a best of three semi final series, but just one final it seems. The first leg is the match, so not everything was riding on it.

Yes it was a terrible ball by Malone from what I recall of the footage. I guess it's just the concept of a big strong tailender hitting a 6 off a medium pacer right at the end. Greg Chappell in hindsight showed a complete lack of confidence in his brother's ability not to bowl as bad a delivery as Malone did.

I think Mick was on his Pat Malone after that ball.

At a dinner one night Max Walker spoke of that story, very funny indeed.

Another anectode on the underarm ball from the cricket in the 80s DVD was that afterwards apparently Doug Walters set out to prove that a 6 could be hit from a grubber. I think he tried a few theories in the nets and was adamant it could be done but not able to prove it.

I read in 'The Gloves of Irony' by Rod Marsh that Douggie stuck his foot out and the ball popped up and he clouted it out of the park.

Remember it was 90-91. Can't remember if you got the extra run for the no ball then. It seems he might have hit a six and a four, judging from your excellently researched scorecard.
