I haven't had a chance to compare with other innings, but just looking at Ferguson's latest contribution of 30, I noticed he faced 72 balls and hit 5 fours.

This means for 67 balls, he made 10 runs. This indicates to me he is maybe not looking for singles as often as he should.

Perhaps if he rotated strike more frequently, it wouldn't allow bowlers to settle into a groove bowling to him, and thus decreasing chances of dismissal. Just a thought.

I also feel looking for singles increases the alertness of a batsman whereas playing a succession of dot balls can put added pressure on the batsman to keep the scoreboard ticking, thus increasing his chances of dismissal.

Good post AH. I think Ferguson has scored at pretty quick rates this season for the most part but what you say does have a lot of merit. There are a few blokes in the SA side who should take note.

Totally with AH well said, singles can only help him convert his knocks and starts into 100's.. instead of making 65 with 40 odd in boundaries, maybe have an extra 20 singles, and a couple twos and it all adds up! callum ferguson along with cosgrove need to look for singles, which will help them make bigger scores and make them my alert!
good post AH

Singles or not 65 and 30 are good scores this game considering the low totals-

Yes his maiden one day century was fantastic =D> =D> . 101 off 83 balls gave the redbacks a good score on the board. Maybe he is turning the corner 8) .

The only thing I will add is he needs to bring it into his 4 day game where bowling and field placements aren't so restricted and regimented.

I'm no critic of Ferguson, just one of the many who feel he is still a distance away from reaching his potential. At least he's TRYING to do the right thing, not like a certain other player.

Definitely a chance to go to England for the one dayers but probably not for the test matches at this stage but he's definitely starting to fulfil his potential.

Klinger must wonder what he has to do, but it's good to see Ferguson get his chance.

5-8 years earlier would have been a good start.
A first class batting average of 35 at the age of 28 is probably what the selectors are considering.

Well then it's time selectors stopped looking at what happened 8 years ago and started picking the best players currently available.

You're saying Ponting isn't one of the best 11 cricketers in Australia? This forum gets sillier by the moment.

ROFLMAO   Ponting would be one of the first picked right now if you were selecting a World XI. Sure he isn't the greatest tactician we have seen as a captain but as a batsman he is one of the all time greats and still is one of the best in the world.
