GWW wrote:If there was a young opening batsman to take his place it would be easier to drop Elliott. I had big hopes for Jason Borgas at the start of the season but it appears hes not ready to be a consistent performer at first class level just yet.

So i think its fair enough Elliott stays in the side for the time being.

Deitz has had pathetic treatment over the past few years, give him a freaking chance to get settled. He was our best batsmen last season with an average of close to 45. Elliott has been subpar for 2.5 seasons now and yet here you are going on about Deitz.

So why then do we even bother counting second innings runs? Why bother include them in a players statistics?

Is Vincent a realistic chance of playing for us next season? Hes back in the NZ team, i would have thought he'd play there for a few years yet.

VINCENT was very close to playing this year
He has told me personally that he loves the harder Australian wickets
He wants to come and play for SA sooner than later

MAL - NFC ...... you can bring up all the stats you want over a career but we are talking NOW....

Don't try and cover up your blatant talk of Watson making the Australian team whilst he has lower stats than the player you want to drop from a state team..

We can all draw county stats etc to inflate an argument, but lets talk this seasons performances.

Again .... lets make excuses for some and crucify others at every opportunity

Besides, I thought we had to ignore last year's form or does that just apply to Adcock?

If you are going to start a thread about a guy averaging 29 be prepared for questions about his opening partner averaging 20

Everyone knows that the first innings sets up the match. It is pretty hard to win matches from way behind on the first innings. Ask anyone who has played the game at a high level whether they value the runs they made in the first innings more than they do those in the second innings of matches.

Ah okay, so Deitz's last season form means nothing?

2006/07: Deitz >>>>>>>>>>> Elliott.

Just because Elliott's pathetic average is slightly better than Deitz's average doesn't mean he's any good. Elliott is what, 36 odd, and he should be making runs or be out of the team. It's that simple.

Of course it's important, but to completely ignore 2nd innings statistics is LAUGHABLE.

Not ignoring second innings runs. Just saying that if you don't make them in the first innings you are pretty much out of the match. The first innings sets up the match, as to whether you have a chance of winning it.

NFC - is Adcock safe then because he averaged 45 last season?

Seeing as we are basing our (knee-jerk / didn't check stats before starting thread  ) Elliot v Deitz comparisons on last year

I mean why base selection on 2007-08/current form that's just crazy :?

How many runs did Adcock make last season?

Why are we talking about Adcock? He's absolutely pathetic, as has Elliott been for 2.5 seasons.

Deitz is struggling yes, but he like Adcock and Elliott have been given, needs time.

Why not drop the whole South Australian team and then start again, hey?
After all, only Elliott, Lehmann and Ferguson have topscored out of the recognised batsmen this season.
Lehmann has gone, you want Herb gone, so you may as well drop everyone!
