Both are idiots. The Ranji Trophy runs through there domestic season with the IPL played at the end. In fact it's setup the way our domestic comp used to be.

O’Keeffe’s no idiot. He might have a quirky sense of humour & different laugh but anyone that has listened to him enough talk cricket, knows he’s very well read on the game.

So the MCG pitch has been given an 'average' rating by the ICC:

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/cricket/pr ... 50p26.html

'That Indian Cheteshwar Pujara posted a century, fast bowlers Pat Cummins and Jasprit Bumrah each claimed five-wicket hauls and spinner Ravi Jadeja was a factor over the five days meant there was enough of an even contest between bat and ball for match referee Andy Pycroft to provide a friendly rating.'

How they concluded that a pitch that allowed the ball to bounce three times before getting to the keeper in the first hour of the first day's play provided an 'even contest' is beyond me.

I also struggle to understand how the Perth wicket didn't get a better rating than the MCG.

90k plus guaranteed on the opening day, do any of you actually think Melbourne we’re going to lose the test match?

It’s all about the $$$$ especially these days.

Pretty sure the crowd on Day 1 was 73k or something like that. And pretty ordinary after Day 1 for a large city.

Never said they were going to lose it, my point was it's ridiculous that the MCG pitch could earn the same rating as the Perth one.

Pretty shit crowd figures considering how they talk it up so much.
Having said that, can understand why the crowds were down on days 2, 3 & 4 after the 1st day borefest and the fact that Aust suck these days.

Melbourne was warned over last years pitch but they were never officially sanctioned - No matter the pitch they were never going to lose a Test after this year. The pitch was disgraceful and the amount of horrible shots both teams played was worse.

The standard of international bowling as a whole has lifted in the las 18 months imo and is the best standard it’s been in a long time. Test batting however is disgraceful.

Very good point.

Best Indian attack I’ve ever seen that’s for sure.

Found the above article pretty interesting. Not great reading for Hazlewood and Starc. Starc in particular has really struggled since the ball tampering affair which I’m not sure is a coincidence.

Who’s the hot bird on channel 7 doing the interviews on the cricket?
Looks like a model as opposed to a former female player.
Speaks well and is very confident as well.

Why do selectors all of a sudden think blokes will perform better at test level than they have at shield cricket.

Because 30 years ago a few selectors plucked Ian Healy, Steve Waugh and Mark Taylor from nowhere and they had a bit of success. It hasnt happened since but it doesnt stop the selectors from trying to be nostra fn dameous. In 100 years of cricket I dont think there has been too many to average more in Test cricket than Shiled cricket yet these muppets think they will buck that trend

Crash Craddock reckons less than 3% of cricketers average more at test level than they did at shield level.

I’m not sure what his exact criteria was around games played etc

450 cricketers in Australian history equates to around 270 batsmen, which would be about 10 in Australia's history, or one every 10-15 years.

I actually think Renshaw is one of the few who would be. The temperament and technique he showed in India two years ago meant he should have been the incumbent for at least the first two Ashes tests. Hearing the pressure of that "We don't pay you to play. We pay you to win"quote last week perhaps also got to the selectors, the way they handled the selections in last years Ashes. Although it's probably a moot point if Bancroft didn't do what he did.

Also can't believe they haven't tried Burns at 5.

Word is Finch is going to miss for Labuschagne

Ashwin failed the fitness test, so won't play.

What's her claim to fame OTHER than being smokin' hot?

More than happy to see Burns come in for Finch - Indians have worked Finch out (like Handscomb) and it doesn't matter where he would bat in the next Test - he would still get dismissed cheaply.

M Marsh should not be picked - clearly that 3 he scored in the BBL match prior to the MCG Test was pretty good but he needs to play some Shield games in March and get maybe a 9 or a 17 under his belt before returning to the Test scene. Happy to try Labuschagne at #6 for SCG.

I don't like Wade - has too much of the Warner gene in him...
