Never rated Cook as a captain, very defensive and is 'hit the ball there once move a fielder there' captain. Loved a 3rd man early on day one of a test match as well!

I know most people give cook grief about his captaincy and sometimes rightly so as he could be to defensive. However he did a really good solid job , he won in India and South africe plus he won the ashes twice. Obviously the nightmare of the 2013/14 Ashes is strong in everyone's mind but after that he helped develop a young team that is constantly improving. He should be proud of his efforts as he always led from the front and despite all the shit given to him (by flogs like warne) he always stayed calm and graceful. He had his faults but overall he did an excellent job.

I'm not a huge fan of ex captains still being in the team

Has it ever really worked successfully, it never seemed to work with teams like India, Pakistan, West Indies who have tended to have it a lot

Cook will be fine, doesn't have an ego where he will get in the way of things. Personally i think it will help his batting which has fallen of late.

Cook was a bland, unimaginative captain but he seemed to have the team behind him. If you've got a side who respect their skipper and will follow him through tough times you're going to win your share of games.

Cook knows how to knuckle down and tough it out when he or his side are in trouble. That earns respect. 11,000 runs at 46 opening in world cricket doesn't hurt either.

Hehehehe check out the DRS the Bangas keeper called for against India. As described on the Cricket Australia website "Worst use of DRS. Ever".
