Stupid review. That was never out. BUT..where are these mystery sounds coming from after the ball has passed the bat?

I can't understand why they keep going on about the sound. Both the Khawaja and Smith ones the sound was after the ball passed the bat anyway. Could be anything from a slight drag of a spike on the pitch to the pads, thighpad, bat handle etc. creaking from movement. Not way there was evidence Smith hit that and the right decision was made. Clear evidence that Khawaja didn't hit it yet he was still given out. It's quite unbelievable really and to see the hard done by looks on the faces of the Poms was even more comical.

It's quite understandable that the Poms are pissed off.

They've all been promised knighthoods if they win the series 5-0

How hard is it to understand the audio and the video are done by different devices and then they try to match up the sounds in a studio. Just because when they go frame by frame the noise is early or late, doesn't mean it CAN'T be bat. I think he hit that, if the umpire had given it out I wouldn't be whinging. Given the Khawaja one though, it's probably a bit of justice. But since he was given not out, I'm glad they stuck with the decision since a noise is not proof.

Yes the sounds are taken by different devices and as you say they "try" to match them up. Clearly it can't be reliable so how can it be used to accurately gauge whether he hit it or not? It's just guesswork by the third umpire. As i said, no evidence that he hit it so not out is the correct call. Khawaja on the other hand, there was clear visual evidence that he didn't hit it.

A noise was all the proof they needed in Usi's dismissal

Cant argue with you there. Not a Test standard batsmen imo and the more Tests he plays, the more it will prove that he isn't. Was pretty well plumb LBW to Broad but given Not Out and as England have no more reviews, he survives. In the space of an hour or 2 we see a batsmen given out that was not out and then a batsman given not out that should've been out and despite the use of technololgy, neither decision was corrected.
