Very true. And the lesson so far in this test for the bowlers is; make full use of the new ball

Conditions aside, Hilfy at his best will trouble all sides around the world. He's always been a fine talent, it was just a matter of getting himself right after injury troubles. Once the confidence is up, we won't look back.

Someone needs to put a giant picture of Tait on the sight screen when de Villiers is batting. He'll be gone in no time. Also...is it just me or does he always look stoned?

 In actual fact, I think we learnt that the commenators enjoys perving at the hot chicks more than covering the cricket. How many balls did we miss? There are certainly some lovely chicks in that neck of the woods!

What a day by the Aussies, absolutely brilliant!!! Johnson what a gun, cannot believe he missed out on the ton. :( He was going nuts, looking to smash every single ball. And then he storms in and gets the captain for a duck! And then Hilf strikes with his second ball and what a fantastic spell to start your career.

And then brilliant captaincy by Ponting. I was calling for Siddle to be taken off after getting hit for 3 consecutive fours but he leaves him on and gets a wicket! Amazing stuff.

Does it look like this guy should open both the batting and the bowling?? ;)
Batting
MG Johnson not out 96 189 131 10 5 73.28
Bowling
MG Johnson Overs 9, Maidens 5, Runs 8, Wickets 1, Economy 0.88

Not a bad effort by North either.

What a fantastic days cricket and what a fantastic match so far. Who needs that Teeball shit when you've got Cricket? I'll never understand Teeball's popularity, it's all just so pointless.

Smiffy has lost the plot in this match with some bewildering tactics. Steyn looked a bit tired yesterday as well he might after carrying the attack for nearly two days. Dumminy and Mitchell Johnson combined to show just how 5hit Harris is. I didn't hurl when got North out becuase by then we'd passed four hundred. Watching Jonno smack him out of the attack and literally out of the park was a thing of beauty. For those upset at Johnno being stranded, go and buy yourself a Peter Siddle dartboard and leave the Hilfy one in the shop. Siddle batted thoughtlessly and IMO cost Johnson his ton. Still, Siddle isn't exactly a test veteran and I think he got caught up in Johnson's momentum. He still should have dropped his hands after being caught on the no ball. He only had three to survive.

Observations.

Congratulations to Marcus North. A great debut (first ton on debut since Pup?). A great innings and he is an excellent leaver of the ball so something for Hughes to learn from.

Well done to Johnno. I said earlier in the year it is time to elevate him and I stand by that. The way some of the batsman before him bat in recent months meant there has been 'pressure on his batting' already. Going up the order will improve his batting further as well. Such a clean striker of the ball!

McDonald. Useless. Should be called Cameron Red.

Haddin continues to have brain farts that you can see coming. Before he got out he played at least two ridiculous shots. Note to Coach: Get your players who are batting with Hadds to come down the track and have a word with Bradley when it appears that a brain fart is imminent. You could see it coming last night.

Harris: Laughably 5hite. Well, at least I laughed. Won't play out the series as Dumminy looks the better bowler.

I went to bed when we got out as I stayed up all night the night before watching test cricket in SA and the Windies and thus couldn't comment on our bowling efforts. Good to see that Hilfy got off to a flyer and the fact they didn't play a test on Bellrieve cost him a home test debut in my view. Already it looks like that Cameron Red should go and they can bring in Douggie who would outbowl him everyday of the week and maybe out bat him on a Friday.

Johnson is comfortable down the order where he can play his shots and it doesnt matter so much if he gets out and then when the genuine tailenders come in he can destroy the bowlers like he did last night. I have seen lower order batsman promoted to the top order (as opposed to being a nightwatchwan) and they put too much pressure on themselves and fail miserably. Let him stay where hes comfortable and concentrate on his first priority and that is take wickets.
