But we're shizen at defending.

Why don't we treat a run chase, or even a defence as a 20/20. What have we got to lose.

We get bowled out in the last dig time and time again. Defending isn't working for us, so why not, in the first 15 overs, have a real red hot go. If it works, it'll send fielders back into either regulation positions, or defensive positions. If it doesn't work, well we're the same as if we'd defended, but maybe have a few more runs.

Always got to try to win. Just going the flay in the first 15 overs hasn't led to too many wins in 4-5 day cricket over the years.

Not saying we shouldn't try to win. Our method in NOT trying to win is costing us outrights.

For many years, SACA had the attitude that 8/310 on day 1 was better than 2/260.
Favell, Chappelli, Hookes, Lehmann all had that.
Never won a heap of shields but at least the lads were trying to win and made a go of things.

Not sure when it went out the window

That's day 1 though, I'm talking specifically when we're set a target of around 300. Often, we crumble like a crunchie!

Todays press report
Quotes only

Ben Edmonson LBW veridict was flawed with paceman Feldman overstepping the line- as he did undetected by umpires on several occasions

Doc Harris the 8th SA batsman to carry his bat

Borgas appeared to be struck outside off stump when LBW

Bailey was well done the track when LBW

Hopes said ""If they were 3 or 4 down at lunch we would have been in trouble."

Hopes said"" Feldman and I were starting to struggle towards the end.""

Charitable Christain refused to criticise umpires who missed no ball calls or the numbers of LBWs

Christian when asked about the 8 LBWs, "" You just have to try and hit it.""

MALS SUMMARY
The Borgas LBW was the match turner
Had Slam Cam batted for a few more overs and seen off Hopes and the dangerous LOOKing Feldman, this game changes in complexion
The final loss was about 90 runs
Harris showed by his 105* how easy that attack was after the new ball lost its sheen
I conclude from what I saw and have now read that SA was robbed and very very unlucky

Start the last day again, and I would back SA with confidence

PS No mention of Manous uncaught behind in the press

I don't find it hard to believe at all, knowing the cricket philosophies of Hookes, Favell and Chappelli.

Pretty well known that was the approach those cricketers took, so believe it.
