Thanks Thiele and 80s magpie for the updates lads, always appreciated!

Good win for the mighty Redbacks which lifts us off the bottom and great declaration by Manou. ;)

edit: actually it appears we are still 2 points from 2nd bottom.

Nice work boys. That leaves the door open for the Blueboys even though we are copping a pasting from the Vics.

Manou got MOTM, and it must be a decision based on both his captaincy and the 108. Because Cosgrove, Harris and Bailey were ahead of him as far as figures go. And, also how their performances with bat or ball influenced the match.

I think you can also toss in Manou's performance with the gloves in as a factor in his MOTM award - he took a couple of reamer catches!

That's true. I think Manou does not get enough credit for his wicketkeeping.

Well done Redbacks, some great signs. Few lads back in form. Gutsy declaration and great batting and keeping from Manou. Good to see Cossie firing, I give up on expecting him to loose weight, its pretty poor from Cossie.

Cosi is never going to be slim, he has a thickset physique, he always has. Boonie, Merv Hughes or Mark Taylor never came under constant scrutiny, every time Cosi makes a low score through playing a rash shot early in his innings or gets run out, the media jump on him about his weight like he's a jumping castle.

He has copped more flak over the past 2 years than any other Redback and I'm sure his performances would out-do most of his team-mates.

Neither did they. Someone chucked on 'Long way to the top' and the boys just belted it out.

Big difference between Cossie and those blokes (up until this game) is that they performed and internally Merv Hughes was placed enormous pressure to get his weight down and it was his failure to manage it effectively that cost him his international career.

He was 5-10 kg over his ideal playing weight in the 93 ASHES series (compared to his weight in 89) and the extra workload caused problems in his knee that he never recovered.

There is a poster on here who has documented this fact in some detail in another medium.

If Booney and Taylor didn't score runs you would find that the pressure that has been placed on Cossie would have come on to them and they would have been dropped. Runs are all that count if you make them you get picked.

Those blokes did work their arses off and it allowed them to score runs at their level. Don't tell Cossie 12 months ago was working as hard as they did.

AS I've said ad nauseum I do not expect Cossie to ever look like Fergusson, Clarke or Ponting but he needs to be cognescent that he needs to do everything in his power to present himself as best he can and for him unfortunately that means doing more than others in the squad. If he does that he will get the currency that selectors like most and is what Boon and Talor had - RUNS.

FWIW IMO I saw less of him in the picture on Saturday compared to pictures of him last year.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
