No, but it's not the away team has to win outright, but it goes to bonus points earned in the first innings...so the away team can win the shield that way even though it ends up in a draw.

And what's more the away team can win, even though they score less in the first innings. Consider this:

Away team wins toss and bats first (or even home team wins and bowls), they get to 8/300 after 100 overs. They are dismissed for 310; points are home team 0.8, away team 1
Home team is dismissed for 319 inside 100 overs, points are home team 1.19, away team 1

The game ends in a draw, but even though the home team scored more runs in the first innings, and they are the home team, they lose the shield because the bonus points total: away team 2, home team 1.99.

Thanks. I had forgotten they had changed the rules to stop the all bat draw by the home side.

ahh, yeah, right

It's in here, under 43.6:

The only other thing it seems, at least 270 completed overs must be bowled, if not, the higher finishing team wins the shield.

SA have been undefeated away from home this season, the opening round was a draw against New South Konstas, then victories in Brisbane, (amazing last ball win) in Hobart, Perth and now Melbourne.
