Cameron White called Tails and won the toss. He has elected to bat.

VICS are short priced favourites, altho i think young Mitchell Starc could cause some headaches with the new ball and may snick up Rogers and Hodge early!!

Bloody close CK!

Starc got both the openers within the first 6 overs, Hazelwood got Hodge in the 15th scoer at 4/55

MC Henriques 2/20 (6 overs)............................doing enough and skipper
JR Hazelwood 2/22 (10 overs)

Please note the comments in the above quote are mine not our Brod, who does a fantastic job in the cricket rooms

NS 6/189[45]
DAN SMITH 62*[73] now in the top 6 batting keepers in AU, heez agoodun, a right handed Cosi !
KHAWAJA 56[104] did all the hard work when NS was 5/94, star
J PATTINSON 6/48 the baby of AU cricket, sensational effort

This was a real cricket game, and for a change the bowlers had the conditions in thier favour

I saw this, the future of AU cricket perhaps
Peter SIZZLE smashed KHAWAJAs ribs with a riipper, The KWA was in pain
Next ball SIZZLE another shorty into the ribs, and it hit the pickets for 4 b4 you could say Wes Robinson
Great stuff

The star on a losing team was James Pattinson
6/48[10]
The best ever wicket taking performance in a o/d domestic 50 over game for Victoria
JP took the first 6 wickets to fall, incredible effort[ for a teenager ?]
The previous best efforts were by these Vics
Dennis Hickey 5/26 former VI and SA fast bowler
Graham Watson 5/20 had the record b4 tonight
JP also became the youngest to get 5 wickets in od domestic games
JP also became the first bowler in AU domestic O/D history to take the first 6 wickets to fall

QUESTION
Graham Watson who held the previous record was the allrounder and the great AU hope in the late 60s
Like the modern day WATTO he was a top order batter and handy bowler
Something happened to Graham, and it involved a Channell 9 commentator
I saw it
Can anyone recall it

VI continue to open the batting with Mcdonald
Dunno why, perhaps they are trying to convert him into a Wattorounder ?
Meanwhile Rob Quiney continues to spectate at these games, if he watches
And VI continue to lose games since he was dropped
The magnificance of NANNES/HARWOOD and QUINEY at the start of innings used to be a reason why the Vics dominated

So he is now continuing to chip in MAL but only the other day you were calling for his head. you wanted Quiney in the side!

Ronnie has been opening, and i think the reason for it is because they are extremely keen to have Finch play! This would only happen if McDonald was to open to free up another batsmans spot. The unlucky man for this is Quiney. I would however prefer to see Wade open and McDonald bat at 7. AUS like there keepers opening in the shorter forms. It would be great to see VIC give young Wade the chance to do it early on in his career.

Starc is a star in the making with the new ball. Young Hazlewood and him bowled one of the best opening spells in ODD history IMO. Hazlewood bowled straight out, got 2/22 of 10. Had white out lbw and given not out, next ball had him dropped at first. Had hodge dropped at second. And he continually beat the edge! Was an amazing spell by both bowlers!

However, it was then topped with James Pattinsons spell in the second dig. Did we just see the future bowling stocks of AUS cricket? Peter Siddle, James Pattinson, Josh Hazlewood and Matthew Starc. 4 young bowlers who could well be bowling together for years to come!! Siddle a bit older but still young in terms of international cricket

I cant believe Im posting this
VI need balance
Drop Jon DUTCHY Holland ??????
I predicted he might play fluke playing for AU
He was selected in the last game v IN but it got abandoned [grrrrrr]
Well Jon has not progressed as expected
He has taken 3 wickets at an average of over 100 now
If DUTCHY was dropped The Dave + Hodgey could bowl off spin
This would allow Mcdonald back to the middle order
And would also allow matchwinner Quiney back to open

FINCH is young and doing enough
DUTCHY is young but is he doing enough [hope Im wrong he is better than his average]

Fine, fine effort by Khawaja. Doesn't he just have a lovely technique? Will play plenty of Test cricket for Australia that's for sure, if the selectors have brains, questionable...

Pattinson will be a gun, 6 wickets, amazing effort, particularly in a losing side.

Starc will be a gun, love his short efficient run up, good pace, great ability to seam the ball and cut it off the deck too. Will be a ripper.

However despite the brilliance of Pattinson and the raw skill displayed by Starc, IMO the pick of the bowlers was 18 y/o Josh Hazlewood. He could've easily had 5 or 6, bowled gem after gem. Picked up 2, 2 dropped catches, one plumb LBW not rewarded and many plays and misses. Wow, haven't we've got some terrific young fast bowling prospects! Starc, Hazlewood, Pattinson, Walter, Cutting, McDermott, George, great shape we're in!

It was late. What I was trying to say is that he can swing the ball in the air and get nice cut off the deck.

What a magnificent exhibition of Domestic 50 over cricket
TA chasing a mammoth 7/326 made an enourmous reply
TA 9/306
DIGHTON 63*[53] loves bashing up the Vics
BAILEY 58 *[70] having a sensational ford ranger season
BOOM BOOM BIRT 97 [77] an astonishing innings, also having a great year, surely must be in National contention by now
He is built like Rod MARSH and his legside hitting is very Marshesque

632 runs in 100 overs of cricket, is a great advertisement why 50 over cricket is still a great game

How stiff are The Tasmanian batsman
Game 1 vrs Vics at the MCG this year the scores were
TA 7/300
LOCKYEAR 111[98]
BAILEY 63[101]
BIRT 55 [54]
Got rolled by the Vics
VI 6/301 [49.2]
FINCH 87*[87] got them over the line

How can you give that out
he was in by 2 feet
the bat may have been in the air by the size of a ants penis , but whattabout benefit of the doubt
Saw it 4,000 times on the replays and stunned how it was given
The foxsports commentators all said Jason copped a poor decision

JJ is Birt good enough for a Australian spot in the middle order ?

Havent seen much of him but by hell he hits the ball sweetly from the bit i saw tonight.
I'm sure he'd do well given the chance.

By the letter of the law, i would say Krezja was OUT.......... BUT BUT BUT BUT............

It's certainly NOT in the spirit of the game BUT the letter of the law doesn't allow for sentiment.

This run out circumstance is one of the few negatives with the technology available.
Think there was a similar one the other day, just that the bat bounced up just after the bails were removed ?

i was flicking channels between the tennis and cricket last night and saw the run out saw he was in so flicked back over to the tennis when i went back to the cricket i was staggered to see him walking off i presumed i had missed a ball. surely some part of his bat had grounded over the line anyway thus making it irrelevent if it went slightly in the air as he was potentially avoiding the throw from hussey.

I thought he was stiff as it really didn't need to go to the 3rd umpire, in hindsight, it did.

JJ, I've just come back to this topic and was mentioning to a mate about the referral to the third umpire system as against the rules of cricket. When a batsman is in by 6ft, 3ft, then the batsman MUST be given the benefit of the doubt, end of story. Essentially the referring umpire is looking for clarification on whether a batsman's bat was grounded over the line, which I would've thought went against giving the batsman the benefit of the doubt.

The system is flawed and should go back to what it was and give the power back to the umpires whether they make the right or wrong call, who cares as it does even out in the end. The umpires are second guessing themselves and are scrutinized beyond belief by the media and public for incorrect decisions. It has to change.
