Tend to agree with you, there is only 4 Test batsman contracted plus maybe Alex Carey as the 5th.

I think you are spot on there Daisy, they want to put pressure on players to perform and not hide behind a large contract, play enough games and end up with full contract anyway.

Saves CA money in the long run too. If you get upgraded during the summer they only pay the contract rate pro rata until the end of the contract period.

There’s a reason why he captained NSW in the last few games when Hughes and others were available and he’s on the vontrzct list with a test batting average of 144
