John Dalton certainly sounds impressive hopefully we can keep him here in SA.

BACK-TO-BACK Futures League centuries and a Bradman-esque season average have propelled John Dalton into contention for Sheffield Shield selection.

The Kensington batsman, who is in his first campaign as a Redbacks’ rookie, leads SA Grade Cricket with 837 runs at 93, including three hundreds and six half centuries.

Dalton, 20, has also staked his claim for a Shield debut with solid performances in the national second-tier Futures League, scoring a ton in each innings for SA against Victoria at Glenelg Oval a fortnight ago. His 104 and unbeaten 100 batting at number five came against a Bushrangers attack that included former international leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed.

Futures team did alright. NSW 260 and we're 0/27. Wickets again to Nick Winter. In good form. Entering the selection frame? Left armer who swings it so offers something different.

Smith and Dalton not out overnight. Almost auditioning in case Raphael misses out in the Shield game.

You know that if you roll a dice enough times it will eventually land on a 6.

I'm neither here nor there on his inclusion, he has been a great loyal servant to the SACA over the years and has probably had it harder than any top order batsman that has represented SA in the past 20 years. I'm sure that there is no person more disappointed in his contributions lately than himself and he will bounce back, whether they think sitting him out is the best option is up to them to judge.

Yes, I agree. If he can get some luck and make a decent score, all of a sudden South Australia looks a whole lot better.

He has been unlucky. Coming back from knee surgery and a season out, he gets a century early in the season and all of a sudden is picked for Australia in that infamous Hobart Test. Gets run out and then is a scapegoat for an Australian team horribly under-prepared for that series against South Africa.

Maddinson was his replacement and his inability to make an impact at Test level has shook his confidence also.

On the other hand, Renshaw and Handscomb have had success and now look a million dollars.

Ferguson in form is much better than any other option and the Redbacks selectors are punting on that and his record gives him a couple of get out of jail cards with the selectors.

It just goes to show this game isn't easy.
