Head and Carey are the 'class acts' of the side but both play with a high level of freedom and can be as loose as a female in a mini skirt walking into a hanson road chemist.

Maybe Henry Hunt is the one they are trying that with at the moment....but i reckon a solid number 3 wouldn't go astray in our line up with Head at 4 and Carey at 5.

Do we have a solid number 3 ?

We don't have a solid anything.

We have a very good bat at 3 but he plays with a shit load of freedom and courage, doesn't really build an innings, goes hard early and if it comes off rides with it the entire innings.

Head is a great domestic bat but is he what the current redbacks side needs at 3 at the moment. I mean that shot against Tassie was horrific viewing......if it works great but when it doesn't.

I feel like we would improve very quickly if we had a number 3 we could build an innings around and then having Head and Carey at 4/5 playing their natural game.

Agree Whuffer, Head is a great 4/5 and even and opener with the way he plays but he's not a number 3 but he has to bat there because he SA's best player and no one is good enough to play that role at the moment (apart from Carey maybe) so as for SA having a solid numbers 3 the answer is no. Carey and Head spent time at 3 in last seasons Marsh Cup and taking out Heads 230 he made another 76 runs in 3 innings so like you said it's great when it works but when it doesn't people are going to question it like you have. That's cricket though isn't it, when it works it can be amazing and when it doesn't it can look real bad.

Jake Cader batted 3 I the Shield team last season and I'd have to look it up but I think I recall Liam Scott batting 3 in either the Shield or One Day team in previous years.

Would have thought opposition First class players would rip him a new one with his antics or is he one of those that just don't mouth off to as you would never get him out?

Can somebody explain why the Tasmanians are wearing red shirts? Weird that anyone would want to be channelling the Redbacks.

I think it's more of all the opposition teams/players just know what he's like already, a big cricket nuffie that loves the game and is just a big, excitable kid out on the field so know one bothers to have a crack at him. His reactions to when he's given out LBW is pretty much dissent though.

Interesting to see they are pulling down the light towers at the WACA, obviously rules out day/night cricket there anytime in the future, strange move
