If are going to swap it on form then fair enough. But I hope they are both in the side. Bancroft at 3 would be good.

Not sure they will do that though

My XI in batting order for the 1st Test:
Warner
Renshaw
Bancroft
Smith
Khawaja
Handscome
Neville
Stark
Cummins
Hazelwood
Lyon
Maxwell (12th Man)
Sayers & Bird in Squad

I would pick Renshaw in the hope that he can 'blunt the attack', I think he's somewhat limited & he hasn't been fielding all that well in recent times.
Maxwell is a gun fielder, & perhaps he might be handy as the sub.

The Poms too, have their issues with their Middle-Order. Going to be a close Series IMHO.
Stephen Trigg & Rob Chapman are SA Football Patriots

Huge call by some on here for Bancroft to come in at bat at number 3 for our country on debut. Won't happen IMO.

Renshaw should still play while Bancroft is a good chance to keep and bat down the order instead. Anyone but Wade and I'll be happy.

Good call . 228 not out and he is a keeper that can and does open. Must be included.

Not a huge call its just a dumb call, pure and simple. Khawaja is the best no3 in the world in Australian conditions.
If they pick Bancroft he will be at 6.

Bancroft huge chance for a call up and I wouldn’t rule out the opener spot either.. Renshaw got his crack off the back of solid performances leading into the test series, Bancroft is flying. Did I hear correctly he has 2x double hundreds in his last half dozen shield games?

Carey hasn’t done enough to get the keeping gig either, would need to pull a rabbit

I don't mind that line up at all.. but I still have reservations as to whether CA will give Bancroft the gloves - my understanding he's only been a keeper for a short period of time? Might feel he's still bit of an unknown.. and if they feel that way then he may yet push Renshaw out. Also the right hander at the top might be more appealing to mix up with Warner/Khawaja.

If we can manufacture a keeper/opener I'd be all over it for sure, we could look after our injury prone bowling attack a little better and all bullshit aside, our tail is as handy as any in the world, Starc will score a few tons before he finishes up.

Cam Bancroft - Sheffield Shield record career

45 Matches
79 Innings
9x 100's
9x 50's
3, 033 runs aggregate
39.91 average

Highest Shield scores:
228* (vs SA 2017/18)
211 (vs NSW 2014/15)
171 (vs QLD 2015/16

He also his 265 @ 53.00 in the ODD comp this year and has a HS of 176 in ODD in 2015/16.

These numbers tell me not only does he manage to go on with an innings, he goes on big. 25% of times he bats he reaches 50.. 11% he hits 100. Reasonable conversion rate.

Hard to see that happening though - it's either he keeps and bats 7, or he opens. Can't imagine CA having him do both.

However I did hear yesterday on the live stream that Bancroft has spent something like 11 straight sessions on the ground in recent games either batting or keeping, and has only been off the field for 2hrs total over that duration.
