That was well before D/L was introduced.

Ha, a bit of egg on my face there then, that was the old system. Either way, I'm not a fan of it.

I agree with both of you to an extent on the DL topic
I understand that DL is the best available system, albiet not right at times

I ask everybody this OVERSwhelming question
Whats easier to chase ?
239 off 50 overs
OR
201 off 33 overs

Proffesor Ecky
Proffesor Mayz

What would you rather chase ?

LM/MAL would chase the 239

Well personally since I am a slow-scoring batsman I would choose to chase the 239. ;)

But seriously, if I was Australia I reckon the odds would be quite similar for both. Yes, I can see that most peoples gut feeling would be that the 239 is easier, but if you look at the stats on thousands of games (which D&L have done) you would find that the chance of winning either scenario would be very similar. These days 239 is considered a fairly low total and in lower total games the number of overs become less relevant as you basically need to bowl the team batting second out to win. So the runs don't go down as much as you might think.

They've also revised the scoring method a couple of times to keep with the trends of scoring in the matches.

For the match that will always be remembered for the rain delay, the late Bill Frindall once answered a question about what would have been the revised target under the D/L method:
