Played with a bloke who broke a rib fielding at slip.

Dropped a catch and in doing so, fell on the ball after it hit the ground.

Fair to say he copped some “ribbing” from his team mates.

Not trying to blow wind up my clacker but I used to get a bit pace going back in the day. we were playing at the Gawler Dog Track and I had a nice breeze to work with, I found the edge and Marty Reading, our 6 foot 8, 140kg slip fielder stuck his hand out to catch it, it hit him on the the inside of the wrist (where the veins are), it dropped him like a sack of shit, out cold immediately, it was freaky, he wasn't well for some time after that.

In another fielding at slip story. When I first started playing in our 1’s we had a big bloke, and I mean bloody big bloke (20 stone easy) who fielded at slip. He was actually a decent catch as I recall. But his eyes were start to go. Not a word of a lie, his technique was to let the ball hit him in the guts, then he would take the catch. I didn’t mind that, as I worked my way into the courdon fairly smartly and took a couple of ricochets of the big fella, before he called time in his playing career.

a few years back I was filling in for my old club in their B Grade, we went to go field and realised we didn't have a keeper, I ended up assuming the role.

An old fella that bowls these tricky little in dippers has set the same field for 30 years, he says to me "hey, whack Johnny in at short leg", I walk over to him and said "mate, Johnny wouldn't catch syphilis fielding there"
He says "Yeah I know, but they'll belt it into him and you can catch the rebound"

Did he slightly misjudge a catching chance? Don't think I've heard of anyone actually sustaining a fractured wrist fielding at slip before.

It was one of those ones that bounced about a foot in front of him and bounced awkwardly as he had both hands down fingers pointed to the ground in case it carried.
