Your fault lol. You thought Head's shot was terrible, Green's was worse.

Watching the highlights Smith and Head (partnership of 117) played some brilliant shots.

83 overs bowled in the day, how much extra time did they play on top of the extra half an hour? Cricinfo commentary has stumps at 6.50pm so I'm guessing 20 mins?

5/339 at stumps, not a bad toss to lose.

Smith has reached 9000 test runs in this innings, he's the second fastest too 9000 in innings played (174).

Massively disappointed with Head, and that's not something I would normally say.........

He was batting well and this could have been set up for him to hit what would have been an epic century at Lords and drive his bat right through the heart of the English bowlers.

However, if you said at the start of the day we would be 5/339 ar stumps on a green top in overcast conditions, I reckon we all would have taken that.

The day started well with Warner and Khwaja knuckling down, with plenty of luck to get us through that early period.
With Khwaja getting himself out in the end albit the ball did jag back a bit.

Good day, but still a lot of work to do with the bat and Green's dismissal was vital in not shutting them out IMO.

Conceivably we can be bowled out for 400 by lunch, which gives them two full sessions and they might get to 3/250.

Need to bat and get around 450-470 by mid-arvo, which would be so much easier with Green in and Carey to come. In that situation would be interesting to see if they go Bazball in ten overs before tea and similarly if they were 3/130 half an hour before stumps when two wickets could make them 5/150.

Heads dismissal would have the goat warming his spinning finger. Spun a mile and kept low.
I don't mind the Green shot.... poorly executed but wow if he got away then the poms would be done already.
If Carey gets after them early tonight we'll be 450 -500.
If the poms want to play bazball then bring it.
I'll back our bowlers and keeper to have them out for 250.
Looking forward to seeing how they bat tonight.

Nah it was built on a known hill.

Suspect it was constructed in haste as this site was the third one 4 years.

First one was abandoned due to a rent dispute in 1810 and is now known as Dorset Square, 2nd one was compulsory acquired to construct Regent's Canal in 1813

Very happy with the first day's play. I went to bed at tea and was very pleased this morning to see we'd put so many runs on in the last session. Proves that you can start off fairly slowly - we must've been going at no more than two an over in the first hour of play - and still end up with a good run rate (approaching Bazball levels in fact).

It was wonderful to hear Nasser, Mike Atherton etc. so muted as Smith and Labuschagne piled them on.

Agree that we need 450 at an absolute minimum.
