1st 3 Ashes Test - Gabba

First Class Cricket Talk (International and State)

I would like to ask Strauss what he was thinking in that final session. He seemed in control the way he was batting. Look in good touch and these conditions suit him quite well. I believe hes probably englands premier batsmen in that team. I also rate him highly, and to see him get out like that raises questions about the mind set of the english team as a whole.

Poms 5 for 79 - Flintoff gone for a duck! How did we let this lot take the ashes from us?

Everytime there is talk of Jaques getting a game (who by the way I agree he should be in the 11), it seems to be Langer in the firing line when really it should be Hayden and I'm going on the last 4 years, not just the first innings of this game.

Geez, the side makes over 600 runs and people STILL aren't happy with the batting line up.

England 6/126, Jones out LBW to McGrath.

2 balls later Ponting nearly takes the catch of the series but fails to hold onto it. Pity, would have been funny to send Giles on his way for a globe when he was picked for his batting.

McGrath is bowling beautifully. Not bad for someone from "Dad's Army"

be intersting to see what punter does

will he put the POM's back in or will he have another bat to give his bowlers a rest and totally demoralise the POMS

Fair enough, I just don't see why the media and others have blinkers on for Langers' head.

Well, they should have the best part of two extra days to work on it. This game will be over some time tomorrow.

Equally, I don't understand why people want him out of the tea,. What has he done wrong to warrant being dropped from the team?

I can't believe this. Australia are going to bat again. How many runs does Ponting thinks he needs? England won't get to Australia's total in 3 Innings, let alone 2.

POMS out for 157

Glenn McGrath takes 6 wickets, to his credit he continues to produce under pressure, the young quicks are linning up, plenty of depth in our bowling stocks and he has had a long break from the 5 day game

great performance

it's the changing of the game, the Aussies are still suffering from the scars from India a few years ago

secondly, with the quicker scoring in test cricket these days, the need to send sides back in order to get a result within 5 days has minimised

in this case, the game is only in to half it's 5 day, the quicks get to freshen up while the POMS are exposed to another two or thress sessions in the field

the game has changed

i agree with batting again. keep the POMS in the heat for another couple of sessions and with the wicket to take spin in the last couple of days the bowlers will strike. grind them in slowly.

Interesting to see Ian Botham interviewed on ch 9's coverage, would have loved to have seen Ian Chappell given the task of talking to him, i'm sure he would have been long gone by the time Beefy got to the commentary booth though :P

the other thing to consider is the first two tests are back to back, so lets keep our bowlers as fresh as possible

I liked it when Glenn walked off the ground after taking 6 for 51, he walked off pretending he was a crippled old man, it was a clear memo to beefy
