apparently SACA has already selected squads for next season. They could be in for a rude shock when most of the players picked refuse to play in it. Yet to come across someone in Grade cricket (from several clubs mind you) that is for it.
sad state of affairs if so many people playing the game don't want to represent our state.
I don't think this is the case.
The players are still playing the highest grade they have been selected in.
When it comes to the premier league if they were picked, they would play.
Players do want to play State cricket, but when SACA tell you that you will not as long as your a..e points to the ground, why would you continue to contribute to this system. I highlight, Borgas, Moffatt, Kelly, Delmont, etc. etc. All SA and the clubs want is for their players to be given the same opportunity to play for SA through on ground performance as the blow ins from interstate. Whilst we are currently praising the performance of Luderman, he has been a full paid contracted player for 4 years, last year couldn't catch a cold. Equality and opportunity.
Now here are some questions for you
- would you rather play for your club, where you have been for 10 plus years or play a State trial game (because that is what the PL will be) after being told you will not play for the Redbacks
- Play at Park 25 every week, or Parkinson, Perti, Price Memorial, which is supported by a club, afternoon teas, a quick beer or two after the game, instead of an ice bath - This is what clubs present to the players.
- Travel to train 3 nights a week or pop around the corner to your club and train and enjoy the atmosphere that comes with being at a club.
- Have some say in what happens at your club because you are a senior player, or become part of the sheep flock at PL training.
Having said that, I support the reduction of Grade Teams because it has now become obvious that something must happen, clubs can either throw mud at the PL, or be part of their own destiny and make some changes. If you look at the heirachy of grade clubs, understand the following - SD - Harvey Jolly, life member Salisbury and SD, ET - Andrew Carver - played at Sturt now at ET, TTG - John Davey - life member at Salisbury and TTG. I am sure there are many more examples of the same, but ask them what impact on their lives would it have if their former club, merged. I am tipping not much because they have moved on. They all still enjoy an ale or two during the Test Match with former team mates and opponents and brag about how good their club was. Happy new year to all.
