What's this about a gloveman? When did SACA tell a keeper they weren't required?

What's the issue with Gillespie? What have SACA done that is not loyal to him?

With Lehmann, I agree he was probably retired a little too early but how much time did he have left really?

I sense much anger in you.

No anger, just making a point. People have a crack at players when they move to greener pastures yet its acceptable for clubs to move players on. It happens in footy aswell, if a player moves they are money hungry etc but if the clubs move them on its because they are crap. Loyalty applies both ways.
The keeper im referring too is Manou, he was told he wasnt in SACA's plans this year and that they were looking at playing a younger keeper, believe he was very disappointed to hear this after the service given to SA.

I knew who you were referring to, but you've got it wrong.

He wasn't guaranteed a spot which is a big difference. He chose to retire at that point in time.

Fair enough.
He was upset at the time.
Heard hin on the radio a couple of weeks ago and he still seemed bitter about it.

Bump...
bays09 wrote:I understand he hasnt been here long, and that's fine but why we play average interstate young players ahead of our own average young players is beyond me. If there are two players with identical talent then the interstate player gets picked first

Agree totally bays.

That being said, if we can get a "drawcard" player, that would be nice.

I am a huge fan of Aaron O'Brien. I feel he gets the utmost out of the limited cricket talents he has.

But is Adelaide Oval going to be packed to see him play a rearguard Shield innings, and bowl tightly? Hell no.

I have been impressed with Crosthwaite, but what we have seen in the Shield and Ryobi matches is the best we are going to get.

A key player is what we need- Ferguson has shown so much, and has been hyped to Bradman-like proportions, but the reality is he deserves to be dropped from the Shield team.

Dan Christian has shown immense skill, with bat and ball, and he can impact a match. But he will either score big or score nothing.

Peter George bowls brilliantly day one of a Shield match, then spuds up for the rest.

Tatters again, is what SA cricket is in, and our current grade set up is not going to see that improve anytime soon.

Embarassing once again at shield level. Hope the SACA builds a new trophy cabinet to collect all those wooden spoons. Very few positives so far

Currently sit top in the 50 over format after 6 games. They will probably find a way to spud up this competition too

Disappointing in the Shield so far, Klinger 538 runs (four half-centuries), Christian 475 runs from one less game (2 hundreds, 1 half century), and Tom Cooper 470 runs (one double-century and two fifties, plus a century in the Chairman's game) are head and shoulders our best batsmen, but the gap to Ferguson, who is averaging below thirty is ridiculous.

Our next start should have Klinger, Cooper, Christian at 3-5, Ferguson at 6- and the next guy in the gun.

Despite some shocking knocks, Harris is still the best option to open, and give a young guy a go (I know we tried it with Dougall, but rather a young guy spud up and learn from it than play Blizzard).

Crosthwaite is the only realistic choice as WK, and he hasn't done too badly since coming in. He is no world beater, but if he the top order does their job, he is more than sufficient.

The full strength bowling line up, which is Christian (in the top six) plus George, Putland, Lyon and one other (O'Brien for mine) is unlikely to happen, as Lyon is the incumbent Test spinner.
Gary Putland, of whom WCP started a facebook group about, bowled very well, finally a decent partner for George, before injury struck.
Joe Mennie, who I have LOL'd about many times, took seven wickets in our last Shield game, and looks to be the fourth of our bowlers.
George's 21 wickets are at a higher than expected average, as we don't see much support from the other end.
Putland 13 wickets (three games) is sensational from a guy to have one or two first class games last season (cue Brod on that). He is the big improver.
Mennie has taken ten wickets in five innings, but take out his bag, and he has bowled four times for three wickets. This is okay if he continues to improve, but if a bag of wickets is a flash in the pan occurrence, then someone else needs a go. In our first choice side, it won't upset me to see him first change next game.
No other bowler on the records list has more than four wickets, so it's a case of looking at what else you need or want in a team.

For me it is Aaron O'Brien.
This guy is no star. He will play grade cricket whenever Nathan Lyon is available.
But he clogs an end up, and is a handy lower order bat.

The alternative is Cullen Bailey.
He is no star. He will play a lot of grade cricket.
He gets pasted, and is a handy lower order bat.

Lesser of two evils right there.

We aren't world beaters, but there is a semblance of hope.

My next SS Team:
Harris
Head
Klinger
Cooper
Christian
Ferguson
Crosthwaite
O'Brien
Mennie
Putland* subject to fitness
George

If they are going to debut a young batsmen, then they have to bat him at Number 6 IMO.

They stuffed up Dougall by batting him at No. 3, it is too big a jump from Grade cricket.

Word is Travis Head will play, which I think is a good move, but I hope they dont throw him to the wolves as well, and let him bat at No. 6 for a couple of games at least.

James Smith just on his Shield performances this season must be given a crack at opening with Harris.
