Don't mind Watson's dismissal. Simply an early midjudgement, can happen early in the day from time to time. Clarke played one of those shots that looks dumb if it gets him out but people love if it comes off. He's an attacking batsman who wanted to put the bowlers under pressure. I can live with that. However, Hughes had a start, plenty of time at the crease (20 overs for the day) and got out defending. Innings SR of 31. Any test bowler will get you out eventually if all you do is defend and wait for long hops. You simply have to put them under pressure by taking toll of anything a little loose, or picking off singles. That's what got Katich in trouble so often and if Hughes doesn't learn that he will soon lose his spot.

42 runs behind 7 wickets in hand, I'd say that's a commanding position right now.

Oh yeah I agree totally. Would be more impressive if we were 0/132 and laying down the gauntlet to eventually challenge England as No.1

Not sure how you lay down the gauntlet better than going 2-0 up against a side on their decks. We can't beat anyone but Sri Lanka in this test.

3/133 at lunch. Marsh 26 (91) Hussey 15 (32). Hussey putting together an innings I think Hughes should learn from. Hasn't had anything to sink his teeth into, but he's found runs and by doing so puts pressure on the bowlers. Marsh sounds scratchy, hopefully he gets his groove going after lunch.

They can't stop him scoring, so they try something different. Results in a loose ball he puts away and makes the bowler worry more and more. Massively hard to bowl to a guy knowing on the legs is runs, too full is runs, too short is runs and too wide is runs! Masterclass. Hopefully Marsh finds a way to keep getting Hussey on strike until he finds the boundaries.

And now Marsh gets going. Really valuable partnership this. 3/198 Marsh 56 (136) Hussey 46 (84). They've added 82 in 24 overs. Most importantly they've both attacked anything worth attacking.
