Paine is good enough to bat at 3 as a stand-alone batsman

KP 40[51] looked very correct and hit the ball really well
BELL 36[61] bit slow, but at least he gritted it out
PRIOR 14[15] who knows how he batted, channell 9 should give the cricket to ABC/SBS or FOX
ANDERSON 20*[31] ''step back a little your fallin' luv ''
FINN 35[24] didnt know he could bat this well

LEE 2/21[7] the old fella still hazit on our decks
DOUGGGGGIE 2/57[9] if only he was fit for the Test series
JOHN0196 2/35[9] He will be walking tall after this effort ....
SMITH 1/29[8] another good contribution
WATTO 3/25[4.3] the worlds 2nd best batting allrounder is bowling amazingly thesedays
MJ 0/29[8] hit loud mouth [the bowling loud mouth] so can be happy with that

AU win the ODI series, leading 4-1

Who will replace MARSH who pulled his WATTOstring next game ?
WHITE bat at 3, and bring in CHRISTIAN or FERGUSON ?

Didn't you like Antiques Roadshow?
Hopefully Christo so he can replace Tait.

Would be a common sense thing to do
Play PAINE as he has been spectating the 20/20 TA games of late and needs a hit
Allow the SA boys to play the 20/20 final

IF Marsh didnt get injured + AU won tonight, perhaps PAINE would have got a gig to allow HADDIN a rest next game ?

i dont think Haddin will want to give up his spot after losing his spot in the T20 side

Play paine as no 3. He is a good enough batsman

Dutchy was wrong with the Kat, Lovechild is still to prove a fair bit as far as I'm concerned. A couple of 30's and some ugly wickets doesn't buy me. But no doubt we will get plenty more opportunities to see him

I can understand it if you are sick of the 'boundless enthusiasm' guff as continously peddled by the nine commentary team but I reckon he shows real promise, especially in the one day game. Scoring a couple of 30's in one dayers is top notch at seven or eight and he did a good job bowling to KP in his most recent game. I know he's not from SA but give him a chance. Perhaps we should discard him and bring yet another spinner in - regardless of whether he can make 30 or not.

He'll make it. Wish I was as sure about Hughes.

He wasn't picked as a spinner, IIRC he was in the same side Hauritz was in at the start. Why not just play Ferg as a batsmen who averages a tick under 50 and play a real spinner, who actually turns it. Smith bowls no better than White, and he gave it away, and I fear for him if he has to rely on his wildly loose batting. Rusty gate syndrome.

On top of all that, I just don't like him, doughy looking little dweeb.... 8)

Hope your talking about his position in the test match team.

He definatly deserves his spot in the ODI's.

What more did you want him to do facing 24 balls.

Fair dinkum I bowl better than White....well, no I don't but pretty close. That guy has no control at all. Come on, Smiffy can't be as good looking as Punter, Whitey and Hadds!

Guys...

Smith is a blonde, wrist spin bowler, who can bat a bit...

What do you think Andrew Hilditch is trying to produce...?

Smith is really important i feel for our side in the ODI format. He can bowl and help out in India, and if we fail at the top of the innings, he can make valuable runs if needed. He can also hit the big ball to capitalise on good starts.

Lets also remember, most of our side are old and will be retiring around a similar time. It is not that bad of an idea to have a young fella in there (even if he isnt performing, although Smith is), to keep some youth in there, and also to help with the future. Any other 21/22 year old who will play for Aus in 8-10 years is probably fighting it out in district/state levels at present, where Smith is contributing to the number 1 ODI side in the world at present.

Smith is improving, he is keen and energetic, and he has talent in all aspects, batting, bowling and also fielding (i think he is up there with the best). He will be our best/most important player in 5-7 years IMO
