Today - Australian Cricket's Stalingrad? - Hilditch GONE!

Postby Rik E Boy » Fri Aug 19, 2011 8:47 am

Today could be prove to be the Stalingrad, the turning point for Australian Cricket. Today is when the fruits of the big Cricket Australia review are handed down. Strongly expected to face the chop are perennial failed coach Greg Chappell and our worst selector in living memory Andrew Hilditch.

The sacking of Andrew Hilditch in particular will bring the crowds into the streets..it will be like the 1989 Ashes victory celebration with ticker tape parades and everything. It is not the end, or even the beginning of the end...but perhaps it is the end of the beginning. ;)

regards,

Will be interesting indeed.

Hilditch will be gone, question is, who will make their way in?

My expectation is the selection panel will get a shake up, with a full time Chairman. There will be a heap of other stuff happen but the lazy media won't report on it, they'll focus on sensationalising the selection panel.

Like the new set up. Puts more responsibility on the captain and coach to choose their players.

So Hilditch and Chappell gone, but Clarke and Neilson added. Back to square one.

I see Neilson has been axed also.

So Michael Clarke is a selector. We are ****ed.

I can here Ian Chappell typing out his response now...

Not about his brother but how we've adopted the english system after two successive ASHES losses. Crikey we didn't do that after 85 and 86-87 and we were really pooh.

So will Clarke select the 20:20 teams???

Never a fan. Our former system of selecters external to the team system has worked for the vast majority of our cricket history no need for such a radical step. Hell our most successful era was when we removed Simpson as a selector in 1995 through to 2005.

This seems to me to be a case of the tail wagging the dog, players don' like certain people so their role in teh system has been modified.

However I do like the new position of General manager team performance in theory. Mind you will be interesting see how the role works practically with respect to coaching and selecting teams.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Hopefully he goes better as a selector than he has as a player.

Surely Sutherland has to go also?

I think we need to get a coach first, a no nonsense kind of guy who can bring a bit of "W anchor" into some of our players. They are a lot of pretty boys that need to get tough. This annoys the opposition and gets into their heads ie. Ishant Sharma, I dont see many of the worlds batsmen really giving a damn about Johnson, Siddle, Bollinger.

Hopefully the new people have a view of youth.

Have heard Rod Marsh is likely to be involved in some capacity, maybe as coach.

Selectors, well start by getting Steve Waugh and Denis Lillie involved. You want a head coach thats brings in the wanker factor back, well you could always go to the king....Glen McGrath. But I would have thought he would be better as the bowling coach.
Also depending on what role Steve Waugh has with the side I would be tempted to get him involved as the head coach.
