My standard response: If Murali doesn't throw, nobody does.

Yes, you try and gain extra spin by throwing the ball, no advantage. The chucking rule got introduced to outlaw players gaining extra pace by throwing the ball.

It's a fair point that LM makes and one that often gets forgotten. The chucking rule was mainly about stopping pace bowlers pitching the ball like baseballers and getting unfair extra speed rather than an offspinner getting extra tweak. Off-spinners are arguably usually the least threatening and least successful of all the bowling types. That doesn't mean Murali doesn't throw (I am not convinced he does) but it's just an observation and I understand what LM is getting at.

Murali has double-jointed wrists, that's why his action looks so suss, if someone had five fingers and a thumb would they be not allowed to play cricket?

Are you honestly suggesting you can't put more spin on a ball by throwing it than when bowling it?

Accurately, yes. You'd be using too many muscles/ joints simultaneously and they would have to go against each other. You use less muscles/ joints with a straight arm.
