Australia vs New Zealand-ICC Champions Trophy-Final

Postby Gozu » Mon Oct 05, 2009 1:00 am

The pre-match show starts at 10:30pm tonight on Fox. We're looking to make it back-to-back ICC Champions Trophy wins after India in 2006. The Kiwis had a good win over Pakistan in their semi while we've been slowly building momentum which culminated in the expected thrashing of England in our semi. Watson's & Ponting's tons were magnificent last game but this one is for all the marbles.

I have in the past said to field a second rate side in this competition, but now I think it's another chance to stick it up the Indian Cricket Council by winning another trophy.

And by that I mean for the fact we have never hosted anything significant since the World Cup of 1992 as far as the Mens cricket goes (and nor have anything planned until 2015):

Twenty20 World Cup:
2007: South Africa
2009: England
2010: West Indies

Champions Trophy:
1998: Bangladesh
2000: Kenya
2002: Sri Lanka
2004: England
2006: India
2009: South Africa

World Cup:
1996: Sub continent
1999: England
2003: South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya
2007: West Indies
2011: Sub continent
2015: Australia & New Zealand

World Cup Qualifiers (Between affiliate nations):
1979: England
1982: England
1986: England
1990: Netherlands
1994: Kenya
1997: Malaysia
2001: Canada
2005: Ireland
2009: South Africa

Fergusson went off with a knee injury, not yet known how bad?
Dr. Brendan Julian reckons at least 8 weeks off just from looking at the replay. :?

Well done to the aussies on a good win.

Well done also to Watson who finished the tournament in completely a different manner to which he started it. Two centuries to finish and two ducks to start.
