1st Test: India v Australia at Bangalore

Postby NFC » Thu Oct 09, 2008 2:00 pm

8.55am local Lets have a look at the pitch. It looks hard, a real batting track. Hardly any grass, and there doesn't look to be much in it for the spinners just yet. Bat first, boss!

And yet, we're going to play a spinner. Who? We'll soon find out.

If White is picked (which he will be) we aren't playing a spinner

Shock, we agree on something! :o White doesn't spin the ball, he just bowls flat pies.

All I can say is that he better make some runs because he's virtually in the side as a specialist batsman. And that begs the question, why not then pick someone like Hussey or Marsh who are clearly superior batsmen?

Hmmmmm we agree again

Having said that i'd be happier if they played an extra seamer (i'd go with Bollinger over Siddle) and used Clarke and Katich to provide spin. I personally think Clake should work a bit more on his bowling as IMHO he is close to the best spin bowler in the country at the moment. Seriously.

Does anyone know of a website where I can listen to the game online? The ABC website says they are covering the cricket but they have no feed (or I can't find it) - its all the other usual crap on all their local and national stations!

I agree that we should've played 4 quicks, we're going a spinner just for the sake of spin. Clarke is a better bowler than White, in fact so is Katich probably. And David Hussey's bowling is probably just as good, and he's a much better batsman. I'm not exactly thrilled with how they've handled the whole thing.

It does make you wonder what is going on. The guy is captain of his state side and hardly even gives himself a bowl. How on earth he finds himself in the Test side as a specialist bowler is beyond me but i could se it coming a mile off unfortunately.

The way I see it we had no real choice but to play White instead of Kreijza.

Australia are obvioulsy going to play with a strategy of quick bowling rotations so the Indian batsman can't get into a rhythm against the Australain attack.

With the bowlng options Ponting now has Lee, Johnson, Clark, Watson, White, Clarke and Katich Ponting can afford to rotate his bowlers if one starts to get spanked. Hussey can even come on and bowl meds if needs be for for four-five overs a la Steve Waugh.

With White in the line up we bat right down to 10:
Katich, Hayden, Ponting, Hussey, Clarke, Watson, Haddin, White, Lee, Johnson and Clark.

So while it isn't a potent attack or bowling line up we at least have variety and depth in the batting.

If we win we're going to win ugly....

Not the strongest test line up I've seen in the last 30 years, makes us realise how good we had it when we had a couple of Waughs, Langer, McGrath, Warne and Gilchrist in the line up...

*sigh*
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
