Postby stampy » Sun Jan 29, 2006 6:58 pm

howl me down if you wish, but am i the only one who is bored with this current series? Has 50 over cricket lost its edge? i for one do not sit down to specifically watch the matches anymore, but have the telly on with only a passing interest.

Same here Stamp, Been going that way now for a couple of years...... I think it's the competition. Sri Lanka and South Africa. Wait for the Poms to come out...! Things will change...! Hopefully..?

Bring back the good old days when the Windies were Rulers and we had some real competition...!

i think the predictability of it all is whats making it boring. Teams always bat in the same way, innitial flutter, just work the ball round for the middle part and go for the slap at the end. The new rules they have brought in havn't done anything to mix it up, 90% of the time the two powerplays are taken 10-20, and the super sub has been a flop.

the pitches almost always being road's dosn't help, and with 20-20 making big hitting look normal it makes 50 over games look rather slow (and soon enough the 20-20 fad will prolly die off)

Could be thats why someone invented 20/20...? 50 overs could be on the way out, world wide..? Maybe the powers that be had to try something different..?

maybe they should give the batting side the option of when to use a power play
imagine the last 5 overs with only 2 fielders out, there would be some big hitting then

Not at all Stan Test cricket you have to bowl a side out to win, limited overs you just need to stop them scoring.

I reckon they should do what happen back in the 94/95 WSC where they had Australia A as one of the teams, along with Australia, England & Zimbabwe.
England narrowly missed out on defeating Australia A, which sent them into the finals against Australia. The A side won the 1st final quite easily, and it took all of Australia's might to beat them in the next two finals, both coming down to the wire. This all happened when I was just 9 but I have a tape of the highlights and watch it frequently to remember how ODI's in Australia used to be!
It will never happen though, because last time the Australian team (lead by crap ODI player Taylor) kicked up a storm because everyone was supporting Australia A

LOL. Wanting Zimbabwe and that carp Australia A concept. Yeah, that was really great having crowds all around Australia barracking AGAINST the national team!!

This series has been an improvment on some recent series.

-unpredictable Sri Lanka
-we get to shove Smith's face in it yet again
-Murali
-Jayasuiria
-Sangakarra
-Pollock
-Boucher
-Smith not making 50's

There has been plenty of entertainment in this VB series. And they say women are hard to please!

I have to say that the Zimbabwe side now would not be great viewing, but back in 94/95 i think they were almost at the peak of their cricket powers. Heath Streak was bowling/batting well, and they had guys in the batting order like the Flower brothers who were capable of anything. At least back then they had the ability to macth the international sides and give them a game that usually went right down to the wire.

The quality of the majority of the current VB series games has been boring and predictable, with last night being a perfect example. But I do agree that there have been a few highlights, some of which REB pointed out.

PS. Who cares if more people were barracking for Australia A, it's all Australia right?!?
