Coat of Arms on the Baggy Green

I have noticed that the coat of arms depicted on the baggy green and helmets is not the official Australian coat of arms. The Australian coat of arms has six panels on the shield as opposed to four on the cricket version. Can anyone shed any light on the history of the cricket version?
