Australia most times picks a spinner and that spinner is the best available at the time, even if he's not "world class". That's because you need a balanced bowling attack. If the pitch is flat and 3 fast bowlers can't get the job done then chances are a 4th fast bowler won't make a scrap of difference. The batsman get their eye in and just get used to right handed fast bowlers, over after over after over ... so the bowlers' effectiveness drops off.

However, if that 4th bowler is a spinner you get the variety you need to keep the batsman honest and so you improve your chances of getting a wicket. If the pitch is flat or turning.

That's how I see it. Siddle or Clark out, Horrie in.

I think that's the beauty of the 4 pacemen we have atm, they all are very different.
Mitch: Left Armer, Quick.
Hilf: Pitches it up with some away swing.
Siddle: Aggressive and can hit the turf pretty hard.
Clark: Uses the upright seam to decieve the bastman both ways and bowls very full.

Great arguments presented by both of you
Im a massive Clark fan , but he looks the one to get dropped
Why will they play Haurutz ?
It might be becoz Watson will be used as the 4th quick
AU may have to punt on Watto getting thru the game

Hilditch's comments that Clark is our 4th best quick are further proof that he should not be holding such a position...

I think Hildich is spot on saying he's number 4. Unless you think he's in front of Hilfenhaus, Johnson or Siddle. Clarke and Katich may indeed turn the ball more, but Hauritz has done well enough this series, while those two have injury concerns which might be aggrovated bowling. Last thing we need is to hurt two key bats bowling because we didn't pick a specialist. I think we will have to pick a tweaker unless it's a seamers paradise.

I believe Clark is a better quality bowler than Siddle.

Easily ahead of Siddle at the moment IMO.

I disagree Siddle is still ahead of Clark for mine.
