Langer break First Class run scoring record

Postby brod » Fri Jul 24, 2009 2:56 pm

Justin Langer has surpassed Sir Donald Bradman as Australia's most prolific first-class runscorer, Langer eclipsed Bradman's mark of 28,067 runs with a cover drive for Somerset against Worcestershire at Grace Road last night, breaking one of the game's most prestigious records and one that stood for 72 years.

Just for a comparison
Bradman 234 FC matches
Langer 346 FC matches

Congratulaions to Justin, a great Aussie bloke

I'll extend my congratulations in here - well done Justin, and perhaps he can go on for another season or two and get to 100 first-class centuries? :)

Now Langer's saying he would play in the Third Test if asked even though he can't. I bet Hughes appreciates hearing that.

Langer was a good player but not good enough that you'd entertain the idea of bringing him back in like that. Warne is the only player you could think of bringing back. You have to be a very very special player to make those sort of comments and be taken seriously although to be fair i don't think he was suggesting he would ever be considered. It was just a throw away line and journalists have read too much into it and made it news.

It is laughable that blokes like Langer and even Warne get touted as coming back into the team??? FFS we should have won the first test and despite a poor first half of the second test we were hardly thrashed in the end of second so why would the panic button get pushed and "talk" (Mostly though by the media looking for a beat up!) of old retired blokes coming back into the game to "save" our test side. I do blame Langer and Warnie though for parts of these stories - their 'throw away lines" about "considering a come back" only adds fuel to the flames of these stupid media beat up stories!

Geez you would think we have been struggling for years to win a test???
