BABY BLUES V BABY BACKS

Postby mal » Thu Oct 23, 2008 2:43 pm

SA [2005] NS [2008]
Both have/had squads of youthful talent
Ive singled out 6 youngSTARs form each squad and made comments

THE CLASS OF 2005 THE BABYBACKS [most around that year]

BAILEY the star spinner and part of the spin twins with CULLEN
Now gets clobbered in 2nd X1 games, batting is OK, might re-emerge, leg spinners take time to develop

BORGAS made a couple of big hundreds a few years back, I had thought then he was destined for International duty, shoulder injury has impeded him ?
Im sure he will be a star for SA
Was considered for the SA captaincy last year.

COSGROVE could be a wasted career , made AU squads a few years ago, now cant make SA teams, surely will become a frontline SS player again.
Was hit in the elbow last year by CAMERON and has struggled since, bowlers are not giving him cover drive opportunties as much.

CULLEN had a great year about 2005 and was the hier apparent to Warrrney and Macgill
The last couple of seasons have gone horribly wrong in the longer versions
However his O/D form last year was very very good in my opinion
Still a kid and may develop into a very good spinner [Im not convinced he will as yet]

FERGUSON the most gifted of all the SA batsman but like my sex life is too short and sweet, if Ferg can get a big hundred it could be the impetus for a brilliant career + maybe for AU

TAIT fast and furious what a talent and time on his side to play for AU again
Was instumental in AU winning the World Cup
On his day the most LEEthal fast bowler in the land

NSW CLASS OF 2008

FORREST looks a dour player and might be a SS player at best

HEINRIQUES reminds me a lot of Ferguson, enourmous talent , but will it evolve?
The REB proterge is only a kid, but has had as many injuries as WATTO
If he stays fit and keeps improving the baggy green is there for the taking
Is not bowling yet this season as carrying another injury !

HUGHES made a 100 in a shield final, outstanding teenage prospect.
The 1980 TASSIE proterge could be an International player shortly

KHAWAJA only made a few v SA in the o/d game, but I saw enough
This player is the jewel of the squad, looks a real player
Got caught hooking at TAIT in the O/D game, but that only signifies his confidence
Made a 90 odd on debut last year
Im sure he will play for AU

SMITH have not seen him bat
Bowls adequate leg spin, and reputed to be a big hitter
REB will have to adjudicate on this player

WARNER
Bowls leg spin, off spin, googlies
Only a short player in stature and has talent
Saw him smaaaash BAILEY in a 2nd XI game last year and thought he might make the NSW team
Likely fringe player for NSW

The SA 2005 crop has been very disappointing
TAIT has gone on and been sensation in the o/d games for AU

THE NS 2008 crop looks outstanding
HENREBIQUES
HUGHES
KHAWAJA
These 3 are destined for great careers
But then again I had though similarly about some of the 2005 SA crop

Khawaja made one of the best stops in the field I've seen for a while the other night, almost match winning.

Moses looks the goods but like the BABYBACKS who haven't developed, will he continue to rise? Playing for NSW will give him a better chance.

Not because of the myth that NSW players get favoured but they produce far more quality players than SA.
