Hodge axing is bullshit

Postby Jimmy » Thu Mar 09, 2006 8:15 am

Im just thinking about it while i read articles from the paper and baggygreen.com but i have to say that hodges axing from the test team is a ******* disgrace...how the selectors are picking on form i dont know? they are just picking on reputation which martyn hasnt got much of anymore....seriously, i know hodge is victorian but he deserves his spot and he should be the new no. 4 for Australia.

I feel for ya hodgey...

who agrees...?

Not me. Hodge is extremely limited but that doesn't make Marto a walk up start however. When I watch Hodge bat is not with a lot of confidence and I've always got the feeling of 'not long now Hodgey'. A dead set nicker.

With Martyn being so old it could be a good sign for Cosgrove if he performs solidly in the Pura Cup for the next two years...that No. 4 spot may open up nicely for him

Interesting scenario, I think Martyn's axing *cough* scapegoat *cough* after the Ashes Series was probably a kneejerk reaction, and the selectors are now craving for that comfortable feeling they last had in that position, which incidentally came via one D. Martyn ... However as a fan it's hard to be confident that Marto still has the capability to produce so consistently ... No doubt a dilemma for the selectors, and if I had to choose I would have done as they have, but I'd imagine they could very well be re-adressing the same situation in the not too distant future...

I definately think Martyn was an Ashes scapegoat, and 3 of his dismissals were dodgy LBW calls and one was even so laughable that the only way it would have hit anything is if the was a fifth leg stump, half a foot higher! Was extremely unlucky to lose his position

Having said that though Hodge has really done no wrong since he has replaced him at 4. By all means, if he was showing no form drop him, but bringing Martyn in for no other apparent reason other than it looks right. It may come back and bite the selectors on the arse.

The numbers point to Hodge over Martyn.
I wonder what No-One-Deserves-to-Play-for-Australia-More-Than-Me Hodge's attitude is like? Could his axing be a combination of things? 8)

I think maybe he`s looking for a career change and is going to try his hand at the big screen or maybe head to Broadway for a career on stage, because he did say last night that he`ll learn from this experiance and that one day we`ll see his name up there again in LIGHTS ?? Was he reffering to the lights on the electronic scoreboards, or maybe the lack of lights that are on upstairs !!

Yes, I get the same feeling. I think large scores at Test level for Hodge will be few and far between. Maybe the selectors feel the same way.

REB = wise like TB.

Marto is a HACK.

Katich is a HACK...

Hodge is a HACK...take out his 200 odd and his average reads about minus-12.

Clarke should get coveted 4th spot. Symo minus his bowling = scrapheap in Test cricket. Having said that I'm a fan of Symo...but...

TB's line-up =

Langer
Hayden
Ponting
Clarke
Jacques
Hussey
Gilchrist
Warne
Lee
Dizzy
McGrath

Only 4 bowlers, two of them,as great as they are 35+ and another 30. Could be a little pushed for variety.

Most of you blokes are all strugglers and love to bag blokes who are having a slightly bad run.
Martyn was the one dropped after the ASHES, because they HAD to drop someone to appear accountable for the series loss. On his figures he didnt deserve to go, and he had a rough run with 2 particular decisions.
Hodge agreed had luck the other way when making his 202*, in that he was dropped twice and caught off a no-ball. Apart from this he only got one other score of 50+
He went back to Pura Cup cricket, where he thought his sheit dont stink, and did bugger all.
My tip is Martyn will carve up test cricket in the next 12 months, similar to Hayden after getting the career saving hundred at The Oval
